Technical Account Manager
GL Trade (London)
May 2006 – November 2006
Development and support of the Clearvision suite of products.
In this role I experienced intensive exposure to GL Products. I gained the GL Core Certification
(covering all aspects of markets and GL Products), the Clearvision Specialist Certification, FIX
Certification and the GL API Certification. As the only member of the team with development
4. skills my main tasks were customisations of client requests based on market access files and
feeds out of Clearvision, as well as day to day support. The role comprised of daily Oracle and
Sybase operations and included development of Stored Procedures, Triggers and schema
design; large script creation from data in multiple sources.
Worked daily on Oracle and Sybase upgrades, installations and troubleshooting. Working with
Tier 1 banking databases; analysing stored procedures and triggers to optimise operation of the
schema in a time critical environment.
Developed and Implemented Back Office feeds for GMI and Rolfe&Nolan, including new formats
and customisations for clients using IBM Object Rexx.
Aided in API design for STP processing. Developed scripts for insertion into CV from front office
feeds for demonstrations including FoW 2006 as well as demonstrations on client sites. This was
developed further to include a data enriching process from OMS (Order Management System),
and simulate clearing house data from the exchange by the creation of tickets from this data.
As account manager for Morgan Stanley, developed a customised solution based on giving
NCM’s access to a simulated Market Watch in order to view their trades clearing. Other
developments included investigating database procedures and table layout to reduce the
frequency of deadlocking and improve performance for clients. Often these solutions were
required under pressure and at short notice and often on client sites.

log files and view the various messaging data fields.
Investigated issues and reported back to developers on a regular basis suggesting possible
enhancements giving indications of what the problems were; possible causes and solutions.
Supported clients via telephone, on site and via remote access. Performed upgrades and solved

Suttons Auctioneers
February 2006 – April 2006
5. An auctioneer based at 5 locations throughout the UK required a new database to speed up the
process of auctions and adding/cataloguing stock when it arrived. This involved synchronisation of
PDA devices with an on-site MySQL database. Also required was a MySQL database backend
containing information on staff and access to secure areas at certain times. This was sent over a
TCP/IP connection to Door entry systems built on I2C technology. A strategy was designed for
introducing web-based access to auctions.
Assisted in building Door Entry Systems using Proximity Sensors, keyfobs and secure codes
checked against an Eeprom based upon the units, which in turn was synchronised with the
MySQL backend.
Developed a MySQL/Visual Basic Project to allow the users to change access control levels for
staff based on time and rank.
Consulted and assisting in designing a way of allowing reserve bids to be made in advance
online, and allowing real-time auctions to take place online for more expensive items.
IT Support Consultant
Invest in Liverpool
December 2005 – April 2006
Working in the financial sector for a property investment company, this contract for an expanding
business was awarded in order to assess and improve their IT capabilities during a period of
relocation.
Upgraded the existing network to an Active Directory Environment including Exchange, SQL
Server, ISA Server for web caching and security and SMS server for updates and roll outs.
Introduced an intranet including a diary system (MS SQL/IIS) detailing employee movements.
Webmail and a VPN were added to allow users to work from home. Added market applications
running from web-based live market information (land and house prices).
Audited existing IT infrastructure. Designed and implemented a new website (driven by an in
house Oracle database) which allowed local users to perform day to day tasks on data relating
to properties, agents and tenants.
Successfully relocated the firm involving design and implementation of VoIP Access Control
System including IP Camera and web-server (I2C based) driven management system allowing
ease of management. Wired and tested the building with Cat5e and separate analogue phone
systems.
IT Manager
Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Society
August 2003 – December 2005
Initially hired for a 2 month contract for auditing the current set up, migrating an accounts server
and introducing web-based ticketing sales. Problems were discovered after an audit, including
servers falling over, no backup, no virus protection and no adequate daily support. After my
contract, I was offered a new position in the organization as IT Manager. During my time I
achieved the following:
Successfully introduced a new MS SQL Server to run Diary Management Software (Artifax
Event), whilst an old MS-DOS based Orchestra Management system was converted from a flat-
file based DBMS (Arcplus) into Tables compatible with a leading MS SQL based program
capable of interfacing with the Diary Management System.
Migrated the old DOS based ticketing system to a new windows based system, allowing faster
performance and greater reporting features. This was done with only a few hours down time
resulting in no loss of revenue.
Upgraded overall network capacity in parts by introducing fibre optic links and optimizing Cisco
hardware (opting for GBIC technology). Introduced a third server for File Storage, freeing up the
load on the SQL Server and Accounts Server (running Sage software).
Migrated an Exchange 5.5 server to Exchange Enterprise 2003 in difficult circumstances due to
the neglect of the server. File space was so low that the Store was failing to mount. Previous IT
6. support had claimed the environment was corrupt and could not be upgraded, however after
further investigation it was upgraded successfully. Veritas Backup and remote agents were
introduced on 2 separate servers to backup nightly. This was accompanied by regular offline
store backups and exmerges of mailboxes. Backups were tested regularly and a disaster
recovery plan put in place.
Introduced a Microsoft SMS Server to enable easier roll-out of patches, software updates and
aid replacement of desktop machines. Added a reporting web page to keep senior management
informed and updated on updates.
Added remote access features such as webmail and VPN access. Introduced another Linux
based server which ran an intranet and Purchase Order System which was designed and written
by myself. This software (Linux/MySQL/PHP5/phpgroupware) based on a Sparc Ultra server
allowed users to enter any purchases they made using company funds, this was then counter
signed by departmental heads and counter-signed if the value was over £500 by senior staff.
This system tracked all orders (of 2 separate businesses), allowing for greater control and
accountability of budgets.
Introduced a CCTV system using IP cameras and DVR. This allowed recording of images from
inside and outside the building, a 24 camera system. A major contributing factor in reducing the
crime and helping assist police with incidents. This also meant incidents could be burnt to DVD
easily.
Completed 2 years of successful administration of an Active Directory Environment spanning 5
servers (Box Office, Accounts, SQL, Filestore and Exchange). Solely responsible for the
organizations IT infrastructure, including individual user support. Reported to various
organizations in assisting to develop software specifically written for the organization.
E-Commerce Development
Euro Accessories
August 2005 – December 2005
Hired to introduce a SBS server, web based sales (through a content management system)
and e-marketing software.
Implemented a network based on a wide area site by utilising Fibre and Cisco products
(1000BaseFX) at either end.
Installed a Microsoft Small Business Server network and Exchange 2003.
Introduced Sophos AntiVirus, SQL Server (for Sage MMS) and various office based
products.
E-Commerce Development
Stevron
November 2005 – December 2005
Hired to add web based sales and a list of services for a manufacturer of motor products.
Subsequently the company decided to change direction into cosmetics. Therefore a solution was
built upon oscommerce to allow the company as much freedom to change their site as they
pleased.
Consulted, both in terms of marketability and deliverability of the new site. Suggesting that
perhaps the business was not viable and opening up web sales was not necessarily going to
increase profit
Installed a solution based on the cost involved and customisability for the client.
Contract Work
I have also undertaken various contacts for small and large businesses and charity work. These have
included websites, databases, on-line sales, migrating servers and environments. In addition I have worked
in the financial sector as work experience on weekends for over 5 years with Reuters prior to their IT
7. department being outsourced to Fujitsu. This included work for traders, stock brokers, insurance providers
and banks based in Liverpool, Manchester, Birmingham, Nottingham and Newcastle.
