Why teach a foreign language in
          primary school?

A knowledge of a foreign language
is also seen as contributing to as
well-balanced and culturally
complete an education as possible.

A first foreign language learning
should start at the beginning of
the first year of secondary when
the students are generally eleven
or twelve years old.
An important reason
 to start the foreign
  language learning Time
 early; two or three factor
    years before is
  simply to increase
the total years spent
      learning the
       language.
                    It has two important
                       considerations

      The way in
        which
       foreign
       language
      is taught
English as a foreign language
          in Europe.

English is a foreign language
in all European countries
except for UK and Ireland.
In these countries English is
part of the public and
familiar environment.

When parents show interest for English, It
helps to create a favorable climate to learn.
Understand Orally Express oneself

         Listen Speak

                  Communicate
                    In English

        Read Write

                   In writing
Learning to listen:

Is possible improve the
listening with many methods as Learning to speak:
recordings and short and simple
phrases, the teacher can Pupils should start producing
conduct his class all in English as soon as possible,
English giving in this way the teachers have to let each student
possibility to the pupils to to contribute and create when
improve their listening. they feel ready to do it.
                                  Each children is different from
others, they will not be ready at
                                  the same time.

                                         Other activities to be
                                               developed:

                                        Learning to memorize
                                        Learning to create
Why make links between English
     teaching and the primary
            curriculum?

Language teachers in primary
schools may be of at least two
types:

 Teachers trained to teach to
  young children.
 Teacher specialists in teaching
  English.
One of the most effectives ways of
                           teaching English was through association
with subjects in the school curriculum

English learning would be an every day
experience, this was the only certain
                           means of teaching language as
                           communication.

Benefits to be gained from linking ELT to the primary curriculum:

 This kind of link contribute to give children motivation and
confidence in themselves, and helps to reinforce conceptual
  development.
 The reinforce of concepts in the curriculum trough the English
learning helps students to learn how to learn.
 this link can be used to develop other subjects in the
  curriculum.
Most people agree on the importance of
literacy and numeracy but differ about
what else should be included, is also
important include more subjects to help
the student to know the world where they
           live in.

                                     Activity-
                                      oriented

Medium-
oriented
                 Message-
                 oriented
How can ELT draw upon the primary
            curriculum?

Stepping Stones refers to the need
to aim for active participation of
students through physical
involvement, making things, and
learning through concrete
activities.
