1. Rural Settlements
Rural settlements are places where there are villages and farms.
They have smaller populations than urban settlements.
They usually have one main function such as farming, mining, fishing or forestry.
3. Farming Settlements : the main occupation is producing food
from the land. There are small farms where people grow
different crops they need. They may also keep animals.
4. Fishing Settlements : the main occupation is catching or processing
fish. They develop on lakes or on the coast. Most of these villages
are poor.
5. Forestry Settlements : people here plant forests to supply them with
wood, which is important for building and making paper. Deforestation and
the destruction of natural forests, is an environmental problem.
6. Mining Settlements : the main occupation is mining. Often small and
rural. Some are located in desert or semi-desert areas that are not
suitable for farming or other human activities.
