1. Popeyes jazzes up mealtime with Cajun fish feast and fried chicken
Appeared in Midland Reporter-Telegram 3/12/96
Fun. That’s what jazz is. Didja ever see big jazz trumpter Al Hirt with a frown? That jazzy flavor in Popeyes
fried chicken is just a variation on the theme!
With Mardi Gras (aka Fat Tuesday) behind us, Popeyes is letting their tempting Seafood Gumbo harmonize
with the rest of the band. Dancing with fish, shrimp, tomatoes and okra to a Cajun spice beat, this stuff’ll make
you sing for joy.
You can get the gumbo solo or with a swingin’ band including rice, five spicy butterfly shrimp, one piece of
fish, Cajun battered fries, cole slaw and a buttermilk biscuit. Popeyes calls this bunch the Seafood Feast, and
they’ll entertain you for just $4.99.
All this is right in tune with Popeyes’ number one hit, Cajun style fried chicken. They get the most talented
and tender chicken pieces, marinade ‘em in a soulful blend of seasonings and spices, then fry ‘em just right
before letting ‘em sing on your plate.
This chicken is backed up by some of the top “side” men in town. They include spicy shrimp, red beans and
rice, french fries with Cajun spice, onion rings, mashed potatoes and buttermilk biscuits. Wow! No wonder
they’ve had so many hits!
If you’re in a quiet mood, they have a mild flavor chicken that’ll soothe your savage beast in no time. Now
don’t mistake “mild” for “bland.” The mild chicken is also marinated in special seasonings for a hearty flavor.
This one’s just a little more on the soulful side.
Trainer Connie Couch is the music teacher for this combo. She says the whole crew is excited about how
many folks are tapping their toes to Popeyes beat. In fact, the turnout’s been so great, they’re ordering more stuff
now to keep up with demand.
“We want to make sure everybody has a great time here,” she says. Jot them a note on comment cards in the
store. Or, you can ring ‘em up on the company’s 800 number hot line.
All in all, while you don’t have to sing for your supper at Popeyes, their jazzy New Orleans style food will
likely coax a song out of you in spite of yourself.
As they say in New Orleans, “Lassiez les bon temps rouler!” Let the good times roll!
Popeyes is a locally owned and operated franchise located at XXXX N. Big Spring.
