3. Ways in which our media product develops conventions (EDITING) Our media products develops some of the conventions of typical rap videos one of the ways which we do this is through editing. We use various shots which are the same as the ones seen in the rap videos below. This is a typical editing shot found in both UK rap and rap videos in general and helps to distinguish our video as a rap on. Marvell Music By Marvell
4. Ways in which our media product develops conventions (Setting) We also started our video with an establishing shot of an estate. This is typical in UK rap videos as they tend to set the topic of the song. They are also used to show where the rapper is coming from which is also what we used the shot in our video for. 5. Ways in which our music video develops conventions (mise-en scene) We also conformed to typical conventions of a rap video through our use of mise-en-scene. Particularly with clothing we used things such as body warmers and baggy clothing to show it is a rap video as that is what you see in most rap videos as the rapper wants project a ‘hood’ image of themselves. We also used a car in order to show our artist as successful and wealthy which is typical of most rap videos.
6. Ways in which our video goes against typical conventions of a rap video. Unlike most rap videos we didn’t use jewellery which would be shown in most videos in order to show off what the rapper has and show his wealth. We also used still shots through out the video which goes against typical rap videos which are usually performance based which makes our rap video different
