4. Community Characteristics
According to the Centers for Disease Control 6 people died every day in the United
States of alcohol poisoning from 2010 – 2012. This statistic alone demonstrates the
severity of alcohol use in our country, however as we assess our community and the
issue of Adults Who Drink Too Much we will be taking a closer look at Orangeburg
South Carolina identifying Nursing Diagnosis and formulate our plan to mitigate the
problem.

Orangeburg South Carolina (SC) is a rural community located
approximately 40 miles southeast of the capital, Columbia. As
demonstrated on the map Orangeburg is a land locked community
bordered by Aiken, Calhoun, Clarendon, and Lexington counties on the
north, and Barnwell, Bamberg, Berkley, and Dorchester to the south.
