4. Statement of Problem
Khanpur Dam provides wide variety of water sports
and adventure activities for the residents of
Rawalpindi, Islamabad and surroundings. However,
adventure activities at Khanpur Dam are often
reported to be catastrophic. Loss of precious lives as
a result of incidents calls for an emergency response
to inculcate safety awareness amongst masses. The
situation necessitates an analysis on lack of safety
measures implementation and negligent conduct on
part of masses during amusement ventures.

 Khanpur Dam is located at 50 Kms from the capital
in KPK.
 Haro River provides influx of fresh water.
 Lake is a Fresh water reservoir for residents of twin
cities.
 Lake with its fresh water, mini island and boating
options attracts hundreds and thousands each year.
 Water sports have been mainly promoted since 2017.
 Limited adventure options in surroundings adds up to
tourist build up.

masses all contribute to incidents

17. Recommendations
 Boating and adventure sports should be brought
under regulatory bodies to ensure safety
 Government should ensure people’s safety by
deploying security staff and swimmers around the
dam
 Training, education, and adherence to safety
standards can help reduce the water sports injuries
each year
 Comprehensive water safety policy is required to be
formulated to stop drowning incidents
