Tom Roth’s Strengths Finder 2.0 assessment, helps people to know what areas they have
the most potential by showing them, their top five strengths. Tom Roth believes so many people
spend too much time overcoming their weaknesses, instead of focusing on their strengths. My
strengths included Belief, Focus, Learner, Individualization, and Strategic. Overall I feel that the
Learner strength resembles me the most, and one strength I found suddenly surprising was the
Individualization strength. Some of the strengths painted a description of my personality,
furthermore I was able to see how I could use these strengths in my career path.
I feel the Learner strength resembles me the most because the idea of learning something
new on any subject. It fascinates me. I sparks me curiosity. Anytime that I am doing a project or
paper I want to not only know the topic. I want an in-depth understanding of it, so if I am
explaining it to someone I know what I am talking about. For example, when have to do an
argumentative research paper over a topic. When I began looking up my evidences I try make
sure I have in-depth understanding of the topic, so that I can make a sound position on it.
Anything that is unclear like maybe a term, or concept tied to it, I make sure I understand it to
the tee. The truth is a lot the work my professors give me sometimes it is pretty interesting
because it allows me to explore topics that I never learned before. Not to mention, I almost
always learn something new, or a different way of thinking while doing my work. The Learner
2. strength I feel describes my curiosity of the world to the tee. However, there was one strength
that I found astonishing, which was the individualization strength.
The individualization shock me because the truth is I am not people person. I will be
respectful to people, and can hold casual conversation with people. However, as
individualization explain that people who have this strength take the time out to get to know
people and understand them. This statement is somewhat true for me. I only put that kind effort
into people I care to know, which pretty much includes my family and immediate friends.
Although, I am very understanding and observant of people’s personalities. I simply do not use
this strength with strangers unless I am building a team, which is also something that people who
hold this strength are able to do. I just believe this strength although I possess it, I am very
selective on who I chose to use on. The other strengths that I also possess, which include Focus,
Belief, and Strategic, I believe gives a window glass look into my personality traits.
I believe the Focus, Belief, and Strategic strengths resemble some aspects of my
personality. With the Focus strength I feel resembles my need to have a plan. When I wake up I
plan out what things I need to do for the day. In my mind I am saying “Ok type paper, make
lunch for Jay, clean the living area and do laundry”. The point is I am busy woman I have to stay
focus, or things get jumbled up in my brain. Which kind of makes sense why one of my strengths
is being strategic. Being strategic helps to keep me stress free because I always try make sure I
have contingency plan I try think of any possible outcome. For example, we just moved into are
new home. The issue is we do not have Wi-Fi, we have made plans to have it as soon as possible.
However, in the back in my mind I ask myself that “what if soon becomes longer”, so instead I
make plans to use my mobile hotspot on my phone. I make sure that I can do most of my work
on my phone by downloading the necessary applications I may need. Two weeks later, we still
3. do not have Wi-Fi, but my assignments are getting done because I was strategic in my planning.
Now for my final strength Belief. My Belief strength resembles my values of putting God first
and then my Family, of course everything else follows. I use my beliefs to help make important
decisions for instances my selection of this university. I chose this school because of my family.
Attending this university means I can get my degree for the most part online, which means it
does not interfere with my husband’s military career, or putting me in a position where my son is
away from his father. I am able to go to school, purse my dreams and still be there for my family.
I recognize how I uses these strengths throughout my life, and I believe overall my top five
strengths will take me far in my career path.
I am hoping to pursue a career as a Physician Assistant. As a Physician Assistant my top
five strengths would help me on different aspects of my job. In terms of my Focus strength, it
will help me to perform various task throughout the day without getting tired or stressed. In
terms of my Strategic strength, it will help me in assessing each patient’s health, and help me
decided what examinations they may need. In terms of my individualization strength, it will help
me in being attentive to my patient, and help me with how I should approach them in any given
situation. In terms of my Learner strength, it will help me when I have to go back to school to
refresh on my credentials as a Physician Assistant. In terms of my Belief strength, it will help me
to feel purposeful in my career, since I am helping people. It will make me keep a balance
between my personal life and career.
The point is that Tom Roth’s Strengths Finder 2.0 assessment enlighten me on what my
top five strengths are, how it is shown in my personality traits, and on I how can use it in my
career. I feel that this assessment is a useful tool in revealing what you are capable of. I do agree
that people spend too much time on their weaknesses. People need to realize that there are not
4. perfect there are somethings they will excel at, and other things that they will fall short on. That
is ok. That’s why people need to understand the power of working with others. Allow your skills
to complement others and let them complement you.
