INTRODUCTIO
N
 The Handloom industry is the ancient, the biggest and the most important cottage industry of Bangladesh.
This industry has lots of future prospects as well as glorious past. This sector is responsible for a very high
percentage of the nation's economy, as Handloom industry is the biggest handicraft industry in our country
(Ahmed, 2001). This sector contributes 24% in the total clothes production of Bangladesh. (Chowdhury,
1989). This sector provides employment to more than 18 million people. (Bakht, 1998) This sector has a great
potentiality to meet substantial requirements of fabrics in the export oriented garment industry. But this
prospective industry now faces threat of extinction because of various tribulations and barriers which made
us to develop this study over the handloom industry of Bangladesh.
Nowadays, companies switch from handloom to modern loom as a result of technology. Consequently, the
handloom declines. While there are currently some handloom industries, their earnings are significantly
lower than those of larger sectors. Consequently, we created this essay about the state of the handloom
industry's workers
OBJECTIVES
 The main objective of the study is to assess of the current living conditions of weavers or handloom workers in
Bangladesh garments. To achieve the main objective, the study also sets the following specific objectives:
o To Investigate the housing conditions and living standards of weavers.
o To assess the social conditions as well as economic position of the weavers.
o To recommend measures to be taken for improving the living condition of the handloom weavers.
METHODOLOGY
 For assessing the the current living conditions of weavers or handloom
workers in Bangladesh garments, a survey was conducted Tarabo,

drawn from 5 jamdani factories. The factories names are Mrs Anwara
Jamdani weaving factory (Tarabo, Naraynganj) , Mrs Barsha weaving
(Tarabo, Naraynganj), and other three are local factory. Data were collected
during 29 July 2023 where a self-constructed questionnaire was used to
collect primary data considering the objective of the study. These included
age, level of education, marital status, family members, various facilities,
income, living condition and expenses problems faced by them. Simple
statistical technique like frequency distribution, percentage of frequency was
used to analyze the collected data.
Study finding

charts we see there are 56% male workers and 44% female worker.

Study finding
 We can support the handloom industry in Bangladesh by buying handloom products. This will
help the industry to grow and provide employment opportunities for the people involved in
it. The study I mentioned earlier recommends that the government should provide support
and incentives to protect this traditional handloom clothing industry. The study reveals that
the competitive market, shortage of capital, and low- income are the key factors for the
decline of handloom weaving ventures. As part of the prospects, this industry helps
communities form social capital, enhance community building, and empower its women
entrepreneurs. The study recommends the government’s supports and incentives to protect
this traditional handloom clothing industry.
Conclusion
RECOMMENDATIONS
 Most of the workers we see in this report are elderly. They have been doing this since their
childhood, because of which they cannot do any other work. As their child has been working
since yesterday, they have not been able to read and write. As a result, none of their sons and
daughters can understand the importance of reading. Then they end up feeding their families
due to their low wages/salary. Moreover, as their salary is paid weekly, they cannot spend it in
any way. And the biggest problem is that the advance money they take from moneylenders
becomes a burden on them. Here various university students, NGOs and government stand
by them so that they can be given minimum education. Then to make some donation for the
education of their children. If a project is launched for them to stay, so that they can rent a
small house, then their living standards will improve.

The study I mentioned earlier recommends that the government should provide support and incentives to protect this traditional handloom clothing industry. The study reveals that the competitive market, shortage of capital, and low- income are the key factors for the decline of handloom weaving ventures. As part of the prospects, this industry helps communities form social capital, enhance community building, and empower its women entrepreneurs. The study recommends the government’s supports and incentives to protect this traditional handloom clothing industry. Conclusion
  • 26. RECOMMENDATIONS  Most of the workers we see in this report are elderly. They have been doing this since their childhood, because of which they cannot do any other work. As their child has been working since yesterday, they have not been able to read and write. As a result, none of their sons and daughters can understand the importance of reading. Then they end up feeding their families due to their low wages/salary. Moreover, as their salary is paid weekly, they cannot spend it in any way. And the biggest problem is that the advance money they take from moneylenders becomes a burden on them. Here various university students, NGOs and government stand by them so that they can be given minimum education. Then to make some donation for the education of their children. If a project is launched for them to stay, so that they can rent a small house, then their living standards will improve.
