Spore, at the E3 Expo in Santa Monica, California on Saturday, May 17th, 2008.
Will Wright, Spore’s creator spoke about the forthcoming release of the game and
presented a demo at the Barker Hanger on Saturday at 2pm. The demo included
information about the game’s procedurally generated content Rather than having its
specifications predetermined Spore allows the terms of the program to be created as the
player make different evolutionary choices. Each creature is hand crafted. The
procedurally generated content brings the creature to life by allowing such things as the
movement of a creature to be based on its body design rather than a set format created by
the game designers.
The concept of Spore revolves around the creation of a universe transitioning through
five evolutionary levels. You can create and evolve life, establish tribes, build
civilizations, and even sculpt entire worlds. Players will begin at the Cellular stage and
progress through 4 other stages: Creature, Tribe, Civilization, and Space.
