The document discusses the author's experience taking photos with the Canon SX40 HS camera and experimenting with its creative filter settings. The author found several effects like miniature, monochrome, super vivid, toy camera, fish eye, and color accent that could potentially be useful for a thriller film opening by adding effects like blurring, high contrast, darkening edges, and selective coloring to draw the viewer's focus and create mood. Examples are provided of photos taken with and without these effects.

Media evaluation on the effects that the cannon sx40 hs has
1. I did several shoots with the cannon SX40 HS thoughout the weekend.Playing around with the
camera helped me to understand the different settings that this camera has. I found a setting called
creative filters, this settings allows you to add different effects to the picture that you are taking.

2. On the top right hand corner I used a setting called miniature effect. This effect allows you to blur
the top and bottom of the screen and focus on a certain aspect of the picture; in this case it was the
bush. This effect would be good for our thriller opening because it allows the viewer to focus on a
certain aspect of the picture or film and it allows the viewer to feel anticipate what will happen next
because of the disorientation. This setting can be used in filming and pictures.
On the top left hand corner I used a setting called monochrome. This setting allows you to record
images in a single colour tone. I have chosen to take this picture in black and white; the single colour
tone makes the picture feel dark and gloomy. This is the type of effect that I am going for in my
thriller. This setting can be used in filming and pictures.
The picture at the bottom shows what the picture look like with no effects added.
3. On the left hand side I used a setting called super vivid. This setting allows you to shoot the image
with super vivid colours that can enhance all aspects of the picture. This setting would be ideal to
use in my thriller opening because it would expose the viewer to a burst of bright colours which is in
contrast to a thriller opening. This also brightens up the colours that are normally dull. The picture
on the right hand is how the picture looks without the effect added to it. This effect can be used in
both filming and pictures.
In the picture on the left hand side I have used an effect called the toy camera effect; this effect
darkens the corner of the edges of the picture to create a distinctive feel to the picture. This effect
can be used in my thriller opening because it would allow the viewer to focus on a specific aspect
that I would want the viewer to focus on. The picture on the right hand side is how the picture looks
without any effects added to it. This effect can be used in both pictures and filming.
4. In the left hand side picture I have used an effect called the fish eye effect; this effect shoots with an
effect of a fish eye lens. This allows the picture to have a disorientated feeling. However, I donโt
think that I wouldnโt use this effect in filming my thriller because it doesnโt look realistic. This effect
can be used in both filming and pictures.
The picture on the right hand side shows how the picture looks with no effects added.
In the left hand side picture I have used an effect called colour accent this effect only keeps a colour
that is selected and changes the rest of the colours to black and white. This could possibly be used in
my thriller opening to highlight a piece of writing this is in order to make the writing stand out in the
picture. On the right hand side this is what the image looks like without any effects added to the
picture. This effect can be used in filming and taking a picture.
