DesignStage intended to be a global forum
on design which gathers the most influential
and impactful designers, creatives, collec-

people who are involved in the culture of de-
sign and commence.
DesignStage is an international platform for
design and the application of art aesthetics
in our everyday life. As there are currently
no such forums or fairs of its kind in Asia,
it will be the first space wholly dedicated to
gathering the world’s most influential and
promising creatives, creators, collectors, gal-
lerists as well as critics to experience the best
of design, culture and commerce.
in this region.
DesignStage is intended to fill the need for
our increasing appetite for beautiful things
and decorative art. The show will curate the
most exciting and ground breaking com-
mercial work, design initiatives as well as
collaborations with designers, innovators
and institutions in areas of architecture,
interior, antiques, vintage pieces and even
jewellery. In this aspect and as a first mover,
DesignStage hopes to establish itself as an
important name that is synonymous with a
strong advocate of high-end design

7. MARCUS
STEEL
Marcus Steel has been involved in design
since graduationg in 1981 both as a design-
er maker and as lecturer, teaching at various
colleges and universities in the UK on un-
dergraduate and post graduate design pro-
grammes and exhibithing his work nation-
ally and internationally. Altough primarily
a slivermith and jeweller over the years he
heas worked acorss wide variety of projects
of varying scale and materials designing and
producing bespoke items for private and
corporate clients ranging from small jewel-
lery pieces to furniture and lighting and site
specific works.
The collection of painted metal vessels is his
most recent work and within this body of
work there is a set of there pieces that were
created early on that he now think of as the
genesis of everything that followed. He have
yet to match these pieces in the overall de-
sign, contruction and emotional value that
they posses for me, they have a sense of com-
pleteness. They could not be improved upon.
they have no name, no title, they are just his
blue-black trio and they drive him forward.

THE ARTIST
9. MAXIMO
Maximo Riera has been involved in art for
over thirty years, predominantly working in
photography, painting and sculpture. The vi-
brant use of colour and evocative attention
to detail have been an inspiration which con-
veys the meaning to his creations. In Reira’s
work, there is a predominant influence of ab-
stract expressionism and the Pop Art move-
ments. Eventhough his artistic career was
relegated to a secondary role due to his pro-
fessional life in the medical industry, Reira
still organized several exhibitions and events
for his work and now that he has retired, he
can focus on his passion and explore it with
the dedication it deserves.

RIERA
10. The animal chair collection gives us an op-
tion of admiring what nature is capable of;
this is the main reason why from the begin-
ning he wanted to be faitful to the physique
of animals. There is so much work and effort
put in this project. It tkaes an average of ten
weeks to produce one of thee chairs since
they are finished by hand.
This is a 3D animal chai collection was a
result of him exploring new design bound-
aries.
Think Big
11. LEAVITT
(Michael Leavitt/
US)
Michael Leavit grown up in the Pacific
Northwest, Michael Leavitt was influenced
by the wood craft and engineering of Na-
tive American, Scandivian, and industrial
manufacturing in the region. His parents
practiced education, graphic design, and
environmentalism by trade, formulating
Leavitt’s early interests in both art and soci-
ology. As a child he taught himself to build
miniature hydroplanes in balsa wood.
“My mom had some drawing skills, she
started as graphic designer at Boeing,”
Leavitt says, “I would have her draw my
action figures, and i would waych her
draw.” Though Leavitt is not considered
a “slef-taught” artist, his art training was
unconventional.
ReMike (Leavitt;s nickname) is a visual art-
ist most widely known afor his “Art Army”
series of hand made action figure toys de-
piciting visual artists, musicians, and enter-
tainers. With his HiPop Project, Leavitt is
responsible for a wide variety of the fine art
and design.
MICHAEL
12. Artist Mike Leavitt decided to “document
the pulse times” by creating sculpture based
on the “Star Wars” characters, but by re-
placing the famous actors with the equal-
ly famous peole from public and political
life, politicans, businessmen, show business
stars and various celebrities. Shown above
is Oraph Winfrey as Padme Amidala and
Mike Tyson as Dart Maul.
