TAMARA Fowle has been
filming homemade doc
umentaries since she was
seven. Now the Gold Coast
teacherhas taken out a major
prize at the Knog Film Festi
val in Melbourne.
And not just any award -
but the "WfF".
"The WTF award is pre
sented to the entry the judges
didn't expect to see," Ms
Fowle said
The three-month world
wide online mm competition
wrapped up this month
with official events held in
Melbourne, Munich, Manila,
Paris, London and San Fran
cisco. W inners were an
nounced this week.
" I liked the entry require
ments," Ms Fowle said. "It
had to be shot in low light
and showepic action
Her film, I Do, is about a
guy who is running away
from commitment just as he's
about to get married
"I rounded up my brother,
his fiancee and my boyfriend,
which was a very interesting
mix with the subject of the
film," the Mermaid Beach
resident said
"Then three early morn
ings of 4am filming later, I
had the footage I �ed."
Ms Fowle, who works
part-time as a special needs
and drama teacher at two
schools, is halfway through a
full-time diploma of Screen
and Media atTAFE Queens
land Coomera campus.
" I studied education at
university and afterfive years
into my career I was feeling
uncertain so through the
advice ofa careers cOWlSellor
who suggested studying film,
I enrolled atTAFE," she said
"The Knog competition
was the first film festival my
teachers told us about and I
really wanted to enter.
"I have made films since
primary school both in front
and behind the camera, but
most were school projects or
silly YouTubevideos.
"I had always'seen making

Ms Fowle has also worked
on a mm for Gold Coast Hos
pital Foundation and is work
ing on a training video for the
Queensland Police Service.
"I Do was my very first
short film entry and it defi
nitely made me realise when
you have like-minded and re
liable people involved your
storyboard can be trans
formed into afilm,N she said.
