Best for pay growth
Every year we create a report covering the recruitment trends – a retrospective review if you like
Available on the website to download for free
What gives us the right to stand here – uniquely placed to see supply and demand and over 65% of all data goes through Broadbean
Tope 3 this time last year read 2 million / 9 million / 1,5 million
Big year for us AND for you – pass on the benefit of the investment
Headlines paint an interesting picture
Job creation at historically high levels
Our report shows hiring candidates is a real challenge
Tough for employers BUT good for recruiters (but still hard in some senses – better recruiters different approach)
Despite very obvious market conditions - Mixed message around salaries - likely down to companies starting to hire more junior level people again
After a number of year of uncertainty and inconsistency recovery became reality
Politicians can debate what kinds of jobs are being created all they like but no debating the extent of growth
Clearly shows the move in the recruitment market
BUT also where it is moving to!
Application levels grown year on year by some 15%
However job volumes are growing at a faster rate which has meant applications for each of those jobs has started to fall significantly
It is this squeeze that are in part driving comments about the challenges in the market
Great time to be in recruitment as the demand for labour is high BUT so is the demand for skilled recruiters
The lack of salary growth sets this recovery apart from previous ones
Our data actually shows that the ‘advertised salaries’ actually fell during 2014!!
Some growth in second half of the year but we believe this is more down to the level of individual being hired in the latter stages
Will be interesting to see if the falling APV rate shown on previous slide has any impact on salaries as 2015 progresses…
There must come a point where clients will have to pay almost whatever it takes to hire people before their business is impacted
Interesting though that from my own experience that recruiters still aren’t advising clients that much!!
Very positive sign for the recovery as it is so broad
41 out of 48 in 2014
ONLY 30 out of 48 in 2013
However, 31 of those 48 sectors are feeling ‘the squeeze’ with a significant drop off in APV!
Hard to draw any solid conclusions
Market in the balance
Possibly due to type of people being hired as we said and more activity in entry level roles
No surprise to see Building & Construction and logistics at the top as they often hire at the fore of any recovery
Admin and call centre also prominent as key support functions of any growing business
Education was a surprise but a trend seen across the market with a number of industry leaders reporting on their success in this space recently
AND in 6th place was you guys!!
Typically harder to draw conclusions from this slide and this year is no different
It appears much of this is structural
Retail and Travel are continuing to move away from bricks & mortar
While it seems the way people hire in New Media and Senior Appointments' is changing
Possible more selective possibly less usage of traditional job board channels
4 out of the 5 are also strong performers in the vacancy growth area
At least some of this can be put down to supply and demand
Travel & Tourism though was at the bottom of the growth chart.
This probably backs up the view that this is a structural shift with less lower paid retail staff being hired
This is also interesting with the bottom 3 all in the services sector
We would put this down to people re-balancing teams
In terms of recruitment our sector saw significant growth in vacancies in 2014 making us number 6 on the overall list!
BUT the APV was lower than the average
And salaries fell hard
Recruitment is a great market to be in especially right now
But you need good if not great recruiters
What I mean is that it is worth considering that social is no longer free as it was once considered…
Key platforms are squeezing you each day….
Different approach
Different style
Different recruiter
And there comes a time where the time you spend on Social means there is very little ROI for ‘your typical recruiter’
Traditional boards still outperform social significantly!
I took top 3 social and top 3 traditional throughout 2014
Posting volumes were surprisingly similar
Response rates were dramatically different
APV was 6.5 x stronger on Job Boards
As a result we have also seen a real shift to own CRM!
