8. Potential 1/5 – Costly monthly read
• Bought without expectation
• Not prepared for the added exposure
• Operating expense increase
• Surprised by system requirements
• Examples
– Minneapolis phone based reading system
11. Potential 2/5 – Process Automation
• Define process
• Note Dependencies
• Improve Service and Efficiency
• Example: JEA Non-payment shut off
12. Potential 3/5 – Data provides strength
• Data improves management reports
• Better knowledge about use
• Knowledge decreases cost
• Example East Bay MUD Water
19. Next Steps
• Start Advanced Metering plan
• Own your data
• Integrate
• Keep providing legislative carrots

SL-serco guides utilities to improve their resiliency.
Efficiency - We work with water, electric and gas utilities. We know the cost for water or energy can be tracked by the amount of development and distribution costs.
Utilities are not in a volumetric business. They provide service to our communities. The knowledge of volume is a function of how proficient they are in providing energy, water and safe healthy environments to the community. The difference between what is pumped into the system and what is used is both causing damage or it is creating an unequal billing situation for the community.
We help utilities correct both of these issues. A map of some of the utilities we have helped are on the screen. Our office is in Minnesota with people working in eight states. Last year we worked with utilities in 37 states. One of those clients is Fort Worth, Texas.
Study showed a 37.5% Internal Rate of Return with just under a 7 year payback for the investment with much of the benefit resting on water loss in the system. Many other benefits were identified as well.
Internal team developed solution
Articulated the need and submitted a SWIFT funding package
Planning and procuring all the needed parts of the system currently to start the proof of concept near the end of the year
Our 3 phased approach to what we call Concept to Design (maybe a new word?)
Briefly go through points here (will go in depth on each phase upcoming)
