Splunk’s powerful IT operations analytics platform helps you optimize the performance and availability of IT systems and applications, while controlling IT costs and resources. However, IBM i systems have been left out of most Splunk environments because the machine data they generate is unique and requires specialized skills to work with.
Ironstream collects and feeds IBM i log data to Splunk, ensuring a true 360-degree view of your IT landscape. Having this view into all your systems in one tool allows you to predict, prevent, and fix problems fast, all while optimizing your investment in these large systems.
Join this on-demand webinar to learn how customers turn IBM i log data into real-time insights with Ironstream for Splunk.
During this session you will see:
- Key customer use cases in IT Operations Analytics
- Challenges of integrating IBM i log data in Splunk and how to overcome them
- Demo of Ironstream for Splunk leveraging IBM i data sources

5. “Observability”
Gartner’s definition…
“Observability is the evolution of
monitoring into a process that offers
insight into digital business applications,
speeds innovation and enhances
customer experience. I&O leaders should
use observability to extend current
monitoring capabilities, processes and
culture to deliver these benefits.”

28. • IBM i often one piece of larger systems
• Remains a mission-critical platform
• Lots of data, lots of processes
• be part of the enterprise view
• Cannot be ‘siloed’
Bring IBM i into the “observability” context
• Uplevel KPIs into observability context
• Gain greater visibility
• Improved agility (MTTI, MTTR)
• Include in “observability” strategy
Good morning…good afternoon…good evening…and hello.
Welcome…and thank you for joining.
In this session we are going to take a look at getting IT metrics for operations and security into today’s modern analytics platforms and tools.
Some of you may be doing a little of this already…and others may just be curious.
Hopefully…I will show you a little of what is possible in the short time that we have in this session. This is a large and broad topic so I will only skim the surface.
If you have any questions or would like to see a demo…please feel free to reach out to me via the contact details you see on the screen.
With that…let’s get going.
Let’s unpack that statement because there is a lot in there.

But what is behind this need for analytics platforms and tools?
In the context of IBMi this can be driven by several things. This platform has been around for a while and key staff may be retiring…plus the new kids on the block take a different view of things. They often have a different perspective and expectations about how things work.
In recent years there has also been a fundamental shift towards having a comprehensive…across-the-enterprise…view…with the emergence of Network and Security Operations Centres. These up-level essential metrics into a single pane of glass view for system and service status and health…from across all parts of the the business.
And over time…systems have also become more complex. Some organizations may be running totally on the IBMi, but many are using IBMi as part of wider, more complex architectures…especially as we bring public internet facilities and cloud environments into the mix.
IBMi is still mission-critical for many companies…processing large volumes of data and handling significant processing loads.
So it just makes sense to bring this platform in-line with the other moving parts of the business. IBMi should not be off to one side. Its an important part of an organization’s IT.
IT operations and security use cases can all be played across these tools and platforms. Even combinations of these many different use cases.
From simple visibility…to operational insights…finding issues and resolving them quickly before your customers are aware…to improving your security, compliance and audit posture.
These are all possible…at your own pace…and in-line with your common or even unique requirements.

Well…this is where the fun starts.
This is where a new world of insights becomes reality.
Using the destination analytics platform or tool of your choice…you can exploit metrics in many different ways….across all the different functional categories.
From ITOA through ITOM…Service Management to Security. Its all possible.
…and with some terrific tooling too.
