Yom Kippur 2023 (the Day of Atonement): September Sunday 24 – Monday 25 The holiest day of the year. Yom Kippur for Hebrew Year 5784 begins at sundown on Sunday, 24 September 2023 and ends at nightfall on Monday, 25 September 2023. For nearly twenty-six hours—from several minutes before sunset on 9 Tishrei (Sept. 24) to after nightfall on 10 Tishrei (Sept. 25)—we “afflict our souls”: we abstain from food and drink, do not wash or anoint our bodies, do not wear leather footwear, and abstain from marital relations. Instead our time is spent in prayer to YHWH. 25-hour period of fasting and intensive prayer. SUNDAY starts 5:00 PM: Torah Portion: Leviticus 16:1-34; Numbers 29:7-11 MONDAY ends 6:00 PM: Torah Portion: Leviticus 18:1-30 "Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit... The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.” [John 3:6, 8] "Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them." [Ephesians 5:11] "The world is unprincipled. It’s dog-eat-dog out there! The world doesn’t fight fair. But we don’t live or fight our battles that way—never have and never will. The tools of our trade aren’t for marketing or manipulation, but they are for demolishing that entire massively corrupt culture. We use our powerful God-tools for smashing warped philosophies, tearing down barriers erected against the truth of God, fitting every loose thought and emotion and impulse into the structure of life shaped by Christ. Our tools are ready at hand for clearing the ground of every obstruction and building lives of obedience into maturity." [2 Corinthians 10:3-6] GLOSSARY *Lucio: a name derived from the book, "The Sorrows of Satan" by Marie Corelli
