resources

4. OVERVIEW
• GWI is the national water utility that serves 173,197 customers
on the coast and 6,877 connections in the hinterland regions.
• Access to water is more than 96% nationally
• Treated water coverage is however 52% of our connections for
a population of 400000
• Treated water throughput is 240 MLD
• The objective of this programme is to provide 90% of our
customers with treated water!
8. PROPOSED SOLUTIONS
• Construction of iron removal facilities to treat
groundwater to meet WHO standard of 0.3mg/l or
less
• Expansion of transmission and distribution systems
to maximize coverage from existing facilities
particularly in New Amsterdam and Georgetown
• Installation of water meters to monitor
consumption and control demand
20. CONCLUSION
• Investment in treatment and reticulation systems will create a
paradigm shift in the quality of service and customer perception of
the utility and its stakeholders.
• Transmission and distribution upgrades will significantly impact
NRW volume, reduce energy cost, reduce abstraction of ground
water and allow for better revenue collection for service provided.
• This is an investment of USD1421 per customer connection or
USD355.25 per capita.
• Projected impact is 279,592 persons including women and children.
