 Ayodhya is considered as birth place of
Lord Ram.
 It has been an object of deepest devotion
for Hindus.
 In the year 1528, Mughal King Babur
ordered to erect a mosque at Ayodhya.
 The ceaseless struggle of Hindus has been
started to recapture their Holy place then.
 That struggle was under a British Raj
which continued after independence and
since then has become a people’s
movement.
 The Babri Mosque was one of the largest
mosques in Uttar Pradesh, a State in India
with considerable Muslim population.
 Many temples were destroyed and
converted into Mosques.
 In 1980s, Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and
other Hindu Nationalist groups and political
parties launched campaign to construct Ram
Mandir at site.
 In 2003, the Archaeological Survey of India
(ASI) conducted excavations of site on Court
orders.
 In 2009, Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) released
its election manifesto promising to construct a
temple to Ram at the site.
 In the year 1853, the first recorded
incident took place in which Hindu
Temple was destroyed during Babur
times.
 In the year 1859, the British Colonial
forced to separate the right of
worshipping their idols. The Hindus were
allowed inner court.
 In 1986, a District Court ordered that the
gates of Mosque will be opened and
Hindus were allowed to worship there.
 In 2002, there was an attack on train
carrying to Ayodhya in which atleast 58
people were killed.
 In March 2017, Supreme Court said that
charges against Advani and other leaders
cannot be dropped.
 On 6th Dec, 1992, VHP and its associates
including BJP organised a rally involving
1,50,000 VHP and BJP Karsevaks at site
of Mosque.
 The mob stormed the mosque shortly in
afternoon.
 The Mosque was attacked with a number
of improvised tools and brought to ground
in a few hours.
 More than 2,000 people were killed in the
riots following demolition.
 A Report found a number of people
culpable in demolition including BJP
leaders.
 The Supreme Court on 14th March, 2018
dismissed intervention application of 32
eminent persons in Babri Masjid-Ram
Janmabhoomi Case and fixed the date of
hearing for March 23.
 On March 26, 2018, Congress Party asked
Kapil Sibal to quit as Waqf Board Lawyer
in this case.
 Ram Mandir Case will be heard in Supreme
Court on 6th April, 2018, the Court said while
hearing final arguments on 23rd March, 2018.
 After BJP came into power, there is now a
speedy verdict and it is expected that the final
Judgment will be in favour of Ram Mandir
due to which Muslims are anxious.
 The case verdict will have a great impact on
2019 Lok Sabha Elections.
