2. Ayodhya is considered as birth place of
Lord Ram.
It has been an object of deepest devotion
for Hindus.
In the year 1528, Mughal King Babur
ordered to erect a mosque at Ayodhya.
3. The ceaseless struggle of Hindus has been
started to recapture their Holy place then.
That struggle was under a British Raj
which continued after independence and
since then has become a people’s
movement.
4. The Babri Mosque was one of the largest
mosques in Uttar Pradesh, a State in India
with considerable Muslim population.
Many temples were destroyed and
converted into Mosques.
5. In 1980s, Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and
other Hindu Nationalist groups and political
parties launched campaign to construct Ram
Mandir at site.
In 2003, the Archaeological Survey of India
(ASI) conducted excavations of site on Court
orders.
In 2009, Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) released
its election manifesto promising to construct a
temple to Ram at the site.
6. In the year 1853, the first recorded
incident took place in which Hindu
Temple was destroyed during Babur
times.
In the year 1859, the British Colonial
forced to separate the right of
worshipping their idols. The Hindus were
allowed inner court.
7. In 1986, a District Court ordered that the
gates of Mosque will be opened and
Hindus were allowed to worship there.
In 2002, there was an attack on train
carrying to Ayodhya in which atleast 58
people were killed.
In March 2017, Supreme Court said that
charges against Advani and other leaders
cannot be dropped.
8. On 6th Dec, 1992, VHP and its associates
including BJP organised a rally involving
1,50,000 VHP and BJP Karsevaks at site
of Mosque.
The mob stormed the mosque shortly in
afternoon.
9. The Mosque was attacked with a number
of improvised tools and brought to ground
in a few hours.
More than 2,000 people were killed in the
riots following demolition.
A Report found a number of people
culpable in demolition including BJP
leaders.
10. The Supreme Court on 14th March, 2018
dismissed intervention application of 32
eminent persons in Babri Masjid-Ram
Janmabhoomi Case and fixed the date of
hearing for March 23.
On March 26, 2018, Congress Party asked
Kapil Sibal to quit as Waqf Board Lawyer
in this case.
11. Ram Mandir Case will be heard in Supreme
Court on 6th April, 2018, the Court said while
hearing final arguments on 23rd March, 2018.
After BJP came into power, there is now a
speedy verdict and it is expected that the final
Judgment will be in favour of Ram Mandir
due to which Muslims are anxious.
The case verdict will have a great impact on
2019 Lok Sabha Elections.
