A computer virus is a
computer program that
damages data and programs.
It is a man-made program.
3. TYPES OF COMPUTER VIRUS
• There are many kinds of computer viruses. Some of them
are given below:-
• Boot sector virus
• Program virus
• Multipartite virus
• Macro virus
• Message carrying virus
4. BOOT SECTOR VIRUS
A boot sector virus is designed to destroy or
infect the boot sector of the disk where
Master boot Record (MBR) is stored. MBR is a
small program which is responsible for
booting a computer. For example; Monkey,
form, NYB etc.
5. PROGRAM VIRUS
A program virus is designed to infect
application programs. For example;
Worm, ILOVEYOU, Tinba, Shlayer etc.
6. MULTIPARTITE VIRUS
Multipartite viruses have combined
features of boot sector virus and
program virus. They can infect both
program files and boot sector of the
disk.
7. STEALTH VIRUS
A stealth virus is a type of virus which
rarely gives information about its
presence in our computer but it still
destroys the program files and boot
records.
8. MACRO VIRUS
A macro virus is a new type of
computer virus that infects software
documents or the templates created
using the word processor or
spreadsheet software.
9. ANTI- VIRUS
Anti- virus software is the solution to many
problems created by computer virus. NOD-
32, Norton anti- virus, Avira, kaspersky, are
some examples of antivirus software.
10. SYMPTOMS OF COMPUTER VIRUS
• A program takes a long time o load.
• They can modify the file created date and time.
• Disk can suddenly access without any reason.
• A virus may increase the file size.
• It renames files and folders.
• It may corrupt the system data.
11. AWARENESS OF USERS
• Any incoming disk must be virus checked.
• If your antivirus software finds a virus, remove
the virus at the same time.
• You must check your system for viruses at least
once day.
