2. ABSTRACT
• IN RECENTTIMESTHE SHIFTTOWARD CLEANER AND RENEWABLE
ENERGY OVERTHE NON-RENEWABLE ENERGY IS FASTERTHAN EVER
BEFORE
• THUS LEADINGTO A BOOM INTHE SOLAR ENERGY INDUSTRY. ALTHOUGH
SOLAR ENERGY IS USED MORE COMMONLY NOW IT IS STILL LIMITED BY
SOME FACTORS SUCH AS SIZE AND EFFICIENCY.
• HOT SOLAR CELLS ISTHE SOLUTIONTOTHIS PROBLEMAS ITS OPERATION
ALLOWS ITTO PRODUCE MORE ENERGY USING LESS SPACE COMPAREDTO
THETODAYS CONVENTIONALSOLAR ENERGY SYSTEMS.
• HOT SOLAR CELLS ARE CURRENTLY MAINLY LIMITED BYTHE FACTTHAT IT
IS STILL IN THE RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT PHASE.
4. CURRENT STATE OF SOLAR POWER INDUSTRY
• Market is exploding
• The cost of conventional solar energy is starting to drop .
• R&D is now focussing of reducing the area taken by solar
panels and increasing efficiency.
• The industry has become very profitable also.
• The latest breakthrough in this field is what is named as ” HOT
SOLAR CELLS”
6. WORKING OF HOT SOLAR CELL
• It is different from the
conventional photovoltaic cell
such that it covers more of the
light spectrum.
• This technology converts sunlight
into heat and then the heat back
into light
• This process is done by a
concentrated type material called
an “ABSORBER-EMITTER.”REF [2]
7. ADVANTAGES
• Initial statistics suggest it is twice as efficient as today’s
models
• It covers less surface area
LIMITATIONS
• It is still in research phase.
• The current predicted maximum efficiency is ~ 63%
• Initial cost is very high.
