7. Bio Medical waste Management and
Handling:
The Government of India made it a rule in
1998. It came into force from July 1998.
The rule is applicable across the country to
all the Health Care establishments.

between 0.5 to 2.0 kg per bed per day

23. Handling of Blood Spills
Use gloves
Localize spill with absorbent material
5% sodium hypochlorite--- 15 minutes
Clean and dispose into RED (Non Plastic) Bin
Use normal mop to clean
24. Handling Mercury Spills
Open all the windows immediately
Remove Jewels/watches use gloves, mask
Spill collected with cardboard
Aspirate with a syringe without needle
Empty the syringe in a container with water
Close lid tightly/ tape it
Hand over to CTF for disposal
