Decision Making and Peer Pressure Nodule Exercise
Cindy Part 1
Cindy is 18 years old. Cindy’s parents and her 25-year old brother Richard are going
away for the weekend. Renee, Cindy’s best friend, Renee, is pressuring her to throw a
Saturday night party for all their friends since no one will be home. Renee even asked
Richard if he could pick up a few kegs for them. Richard surprises them and brings back
3 cases of Stag beer, a case of Guinness, 3 bottles of Absolut Vodka, 2 bottles of
Hennessey and 4 bottles of Riunite White wine, which he hides in the basement. Renee
also gets some marijuana and spreads the word around for everyone to show up. Cindy
now has over $1000 worth of alcohol hid in the basement, an empty house for the
weekend, and at least fifteen friends expected to show!
What should she do? List at least 4 choices Cindy has (though if you can see more feel
free to add them)
Cindy Part 2
Cindy, 18, is hosting the party of the year. Her parents have gone away for the weekend.
Her brother bought more than enough alcohol, and her friend Renee invited all of their
friends. Everything is going well at first, but eventually Cindy becomes aware of a few
problems:
- her friends invited friends, and there are now close to 100 people at the house
- some of her guests are getting sick in inconvenient places(throwing up in bro’s room!)
- she catches two of her friends having sex in her parents’ bedroom
-she catches two boys and Renee smoking marijuana in her father’s study
- the neighbors have threatened to call the police if the noise continues
- her parents changed plans, and are now coming home at 10:00 a.m. the next day
What should she do now? Knowing what you do now, would you have changed your
choice in Part 1? How do you think Cindy should have gone about handling Renee and
her decision making processes?
