3. DESCRIPTION
ï§In this electronics project, I haveexplained how to make
an automatic water pump switch using the 555 timer IC.
The pumpwill automatically ON and OFF according to
thewater level in the tank.
ï§The pumpwill automatically turn on if thewater level in
the tank decrease (cross the green wire). And the Pump
will stopwhen thewater level touch the red wire.
5. Working Principle
âą We know the property of 555 timer IC, i.e. its output goes
HIGH when voltage at the second pin(trigger pin) is less
than 1/3 V.
âą Also we can reset back the IC byapplying a LOW voltage at
the 4th pin (Reset pin).
âą In this project 3 wires are dipped in water tank. Let us
define two water levelsBottom (L) level and Top (H) level.
One of thewire or probe is from Vcc, which can becalled as
middle level (M).
âą When water level goes down, the 2nd pin gets
disconnected(untouched) from water i.e. voltage at the
trigger pin becomes less than Vcc. Then theoutputof 555
becomes high.
6. âą The output of 555 is fed toa SL 100 transistor, it
energizes the relay coil and the water pumpset is
turned ON.
âą While the water level rises, the top level probe is
covered bywaterand the transistor becomes ON. Its
collectorvoltage goes toVce(sat) =0.2V.
âą The low voltage at the 4th pin resets the IC. So the
output of 555 becomes 0V. Hence the motor will turn
OFF automatically.
âą For practical implementation, you must use a relay.
Rating of relay is chosen according to the load
(Motor). 32 Ampere relay is best suited fordomestic
application.
9. Pros
Its saves water.
Its not saveonly wateralso save power, timeand money.
Itsalso helpsyou to stay stress freeabout the tank
overflowing.
Cons
Its not provide theanyguarantee of thecircuit
If anycomponent isdamaged then we need tochange
thewhole circuit.
10. Application
I. Farmiring and industrial settings to ensure a
constant and reliable supply of water for various
application such as irrigation, livestock.
II. Automatic water pump switch are commonly used in
house .
11. Conclusion
â«Thus by using this simple arrangement we can save wastage
of water and electricity. It is very important for us to control
the use of natural source of energy. By using this circuitwe
can solve ourpurposeveryeasily.
