PROJECTS
Unmanned & Autonomous Capstone design Project: UAV formation flight: Member of a 2-person
team, developed software in MATLAB and Simulink to support formation flight of a Skywalker UAS
platform.
Calculating angle of attack and side slip of UAS using multi-hole air probe.
Developed wake vortex model for Skywalker UAS,
Development of a LQR (linear quadratic regulator) and non-linear dynamic
inversion(NLDI) controller.
Arduino Project: two-wheel balance bot: Member of a 2-person team, built a self-balancing robot which
used sensor fusion techniques which combined gyroscope and accelerometer values and the combined
sensor values are run through a complimentary filter to compute the final angle value of the robot which
denoted if it was upright or not.
Simulation of path planning algorithm for an autonomous lawnmower: Member of a 3-person team,
built a commercial autonomous lawnmower for which a boustrophedon path planning algorithm was
developed and simulated with obstacle avoidance capabilities using a Velodyne LIDAR. Developed a
complementary filter for the Sparton IMU on the lawnmower.
Mbed Project - Coylebot: Member of a 2-person team, which involved development of a small
robot and programming autonomy into the robot.
Built and assembled a small differentially steered robot by soldering
components and wiring it on PCB (Printed circuit board).
Developed a kinematic simulation of the differentially steered robot on MATLAB.
Active ranging – developed advanced obstacle avoidance code using infra-
red(IR)sensors and ultrasound sensors.
Developed a robust GPS waypoint tracking algorithm.
Computer vision (Vision-based robot control using MATLAB).
Path planning (A* path planning and wall following).
Morpheus lander failure investigation: Member of a 4-person, investigation of the failure of the Morpheus
moon lander that crashed during a testing and a detailed analysis was done using fault tree analysis, petri
nets, Markov model, FMECA (Failure mode, effects and criticality analysis), risk assessment and hazard
rank, event tree analysis.
Modulation of radio signals using MATLAB Using BPSK modulation: Member of a 2-person
team, developed a MATLAB to send the phrase 'Kilroy was here' by BPSK (Binary Phase-shift Keying)
using MATLAB.
●The sequence had to be transmitted by a computer speaker and simultaneously received by
computer microphone.
●A MATLAB script was written to modulate, send, receive and demodulate the data.
2. Antenna placement on a UAV using NEC (Numerical Electromagnetics Code): Member of a 2-person team,
simulating unmanned aircraft antenna configurations using the NEC (Numerical Electromagnetic code).
●Developed NEC code to build a UAV wire frame and position dipole antennas at different locations
on the UAV wireframe.
●Analyzed the different configurations of antenna positioning on a UAV to see the radiation
pattern of a dipole antenna for possible crosspolarization.
Exploiting acoustic multipath using audio-frequency SONAR sensor system with MATLAB: Member of
a 2-person team, developed an algorithm for acoustic ranging using MATLAB code which uses the multipath
and calculates time taken for sound to bounce off target and comeback using computer speaker.
