6. UNIVERSITY OF LAGOS STUDENTS’ ASSEMBLY (U.S.A) REPORT 2015/2016 Session
Introduction
University of Lagos Students' Assembly (U.S.A) is a registered students society operating on
campus, embarks on societal projects that enhance students potentials. The society also
works with other students' groups or bodies to achieve similar goals and have represented
the school at events/activities outside UNILAG.
Report on U.S.A 2016 Project Activities tells the progress level of its re-occurring projects,
newly introduced ones and other engagements during the 2015/16 Academic Session which
marked the 3rd complete session in existence and project delivery. Details on challenges
faced and supports received were not excluded in the report.
This session also fulfilled the promise of an approved constitutional continuity plan that
guides and enables the society to function and operate forever. The plan is based on
established strategies and an organized framework.

Activity Report
U.S.A Major Career Training Event
In response to 2013 U.S.A Students' Career Census Project, a major career training event
was organized on the 26th
of July, 2016 at Multipurpose Hall A, UNILAG to train students
who enrolled in the project. The venue was partitioned into 10 classes to enable training in
10 different career fields/skills.
U.S.A career census project was a survey that enrolled over 3000 UNILAG students which
produced detailed information on careers/skills students wish to be trained in. Enrolled
students were called back/invited to train at the event according to the career/skill choices
they filled during the survey.
The major career event trained students in the following career fields: Crafts,
Entertainment, Fashion, Information and Communication Technology, Beautification,
Resource Management, Baking/Cooking & Catering and Art while a general class was held
for Digital Marketing and Entrepreneur Skills. Training lasted 6 hours. Students were
expected to relate with facilitators to further their training and possibly for career
mentorship.

8. UNIVERSITY OF LAGOS STUDENTS’ ASSEMBLY (U.S.A) REPORT 2015/2016 Session
A major challenge was faced with getting funds to secure the big hall venue and partitioning
into 10 classes for the trainings. Also, only about 500 students attended the event compared
to the over 3000 expected, this can be blamed on the bulk SMS service provider that failed
to deliver invitations we sent, prior to event date.

9. UNIVERSITY OF LAGOS STUDENTS’ ASSEMBLY (U.S.A) REPORT 2015/2016 Session
However, event publicity on campus and Whatsapp groups plus last minute bulk texts
served well to invite students. Every attendee was allowed to train including those who did
not enroll in the career census project.
Please note that, students who enrolled in the 2013 Career Census project were either in
100 or 200 level during the survey, this means they were either in 300 or 400 level at time of
the U.S.A Major Career Training event.
Event Supporters were basically the facilitators, volunteers and U.S.A members. Our request
to use the venue hall for free was not approved by the school, sponsorship was below
average, this halted event planning to an extent, but still, the event achievement was made.
Notable among these brands that supported were; Wilson Juice Refreshment, FSS gist,
Ruchinaz Cakes and Confectionary E-factor Media, Connect Nigeria, Gold Studios, Mind The
Gap NG, Imoren Innovations and Slitz Couture&Fashion Academy while UNILAG 103.9fm
granted us an interview prior event date.
Facilitators that made the event possible were; Miss Vanessa- (Shoe/Bag/Belt Making), Mr.
Michael Amadi (MUSON Voice Coach), Moneezy (Beat Production), Jossy Gold (Gold Video
Studio), Mr Ikenna (Publisher/Script Writing), Mrs. Nike Osilalu (Thespian Theatre Family),
Mr. Olatunji Ameen (Stage Drama), Mrs. Ruth Okoro (Baking/Cooking/Catering), Mr. Leke
Olufade (Entrepreneur Skills), Mr. Olabode Eyiaro (Resource Management), Mr. Lanre
Messan (Make-Up Business), Miss Oladeji Kehinde (Fashion), Mr Adeyemi Temidayo (Agric
Business) and Mr. Adeniyi Oluokun (Digital Marketing/ I.C.T)

Pay Attitude Proposal
University of Lags Students Assembly (U.S.A) proposed a brand marketing strategy plan to
pay attitude of Unified Payment Solutions to enable reaching out to majority of the students
in their learning faculties and through social media, class governors and hall resident
officials. The strategy was tagged Attitude Rush.
Unified Payment Services were to train U.S.A members before executing the proposed
strategy, but arrangements to pay U.S.A engagement fee prior execution did not happen,
this halted the project.
U.S.A Future Students Career Development Model Project
University of Lagos Students Assembly (U.S.A) fulfilled its promise to respond to 2013
student career census project by executing this innovative "model" project. The census
results produced details of students and their corresponding choice of career/skill to be
trained in.
The model project involved 3 platforms, they were; a major career event,
mentorship/career referrals and career excursions. On the first platform, out of the over
3000 surveyed students who enrolled in the U.S.A Career Census Project were trained in
their choice of career/skill at the U.S.A Major Career Training Event. On the second
platform, other students were referred to career mentors through U.S.A. These students
must have chosen careers that were not trained at the U.S.A Major Career Training Event.
Finally, on the 3rd platform, few students who chose outstanding careers/skills that could
not be trained or referred were to be sent on career excursions to offices and companies
(this platform is yet to happen). These 3 platforms make up the U.S.A Future Students
Career Development Model Project.
The U.S.A Model Project was proudly endorsed by the school. Other organizations/brands
that endorsed and / or showed good interest were Ignite Africa Organization, MSE Business
School, The Future Africa Organization, Sulcata Entertainment and Africa’s Young
Entrepreneur (AYE).

Suing Naija Bulk SMS
UNILAG Students' Assembly (U.S.A) sued Naija Bulk SMS, a bulk SMS service provider for its
failure to deliver U.S.A sent invitations via bulk text to expected students for the Major
Career Event organized by the students’ assembly. The suing process was carried out by
Oladeji Taiwo, an executive member and head of planning committee for the event. Ayoola
Julius & Co. legal practitioners served as U.S.A solicitors for the legal interaction. Naija Bulk
SMS denied its failure and demanded for evidence.
Oladeji Taiwo communicated the updates on the entire suing process with the U.S.A team
through Whatsapp group chat. The Assembly had a good case but efforts to take it to court
were not achieved due to the cost of court cases. However, all important documents are
intact and the case can still be taken up at another time.
Other U.S.A Achievements
Continuity Plan Approval
Ambassadorship Package Approval
U.S.A Constitutional Continuity Plan - UNILAG Students' Assembly submitted its continuity
plan to the school governing body (Students' Affairs Division) for approval and updated on
the society's operating records. It was approved.
The U.S.A Continuity plan contains constitutional framework and role specification of the
executives and members, guiding the society on how it brings in new members for executive
positions and advisory roles. The plan also re-affirms the potentials of the society to
continue existing/operate indefinitely. It also establishes the mentorship role of former
executives and members (alumnus) also highlighted the use of fund raising strategies for
sustainability.
Img.28: Document showing Suing Correspondence Img.29: Document showing Suing correspondence
17
18. UNIVERSITY OF LAGOS STUDENTS’ ASSEMBLY (U.S.A) REPORT 2015/2016 Session
An important feature of the plan is the detailed expression of stated functional hierarchy in
the executive circle and role specifications. The document also detailed down on certain
executions positions like Head of Class Governor Executives, Head of Project Advisers and
Head of Mentors peculiar to U.S.A alone.
The continuity plan simply ensures that if well followed, the existence of U.S.A as a
functional society is guaranteed. This is indeed crucial to attracting investors for long term
partnership or project support.
U.S.A Ambassadorship Package- the Assembly developed a one page proposal to serve
brands and organization interested in publicity, students' engagements and campus
activation. The proposal clearly states the resources the society is endorsed with, also
networking abilities and social marketing strategies for interested brands to benefit from
with at fee of 100 thousand naira per academic session semester.
U.S.A members automatically become brand ambassadors to brands or organizations that
subscribe to our ambassadorship package offer.
The proposal was approved by the university Students' Affairs Division, and acknowledged
as one of U.S.A ways of raising funds for its continuity and project delivery.

19. UNIVERSITY OF LAGOS STUDENTS’ ASSEMBLY (U.S.A) REPORT 2015/2016 Session
General Report on U.S.A 2016 Project Activity Calendar
It is a tradition for U.S.A to respond to 2013 Career Census project results through trainings,
tips/guides via social media text, mentorship and career excursions for enrolled students;
every session. This session, the society sustained its delivery of career guides and tips vie its
blackberry messenger channel with plans to extend to YouTube videos and radio talks.
Every session, U.S.A sustains its re-occurring projects and also introduces new projects.
Among the re-occurring projects is "All Class Governor Forum", which failed to hold this
session. A planning committee was set up and headed by U.S.A executive - Ebuka
Maduekwe. The reason for the failure can be attributed to the lack of updated class
governors contact database and certain faults of the planning committee leader.
Notable among the re-occurring projects is also "Dress Well Campaign". The society made
good efforts in erecting a sign board on campus promoting "Dress Well" message to
students but approval by the Students Affairs Division delayed progress, which eventually
extended the project activity, for the next session to take up.
A major career event was successfully organized by the society, which trained students in 10
different careers/skills. It was a first time event on campus by the society. The head of event
planning committee was U.S.A executive - Oladeji Taiwo. Other notable executives who
were actively involved in the project are; Farouk Tackie, Ayopo Onafowokan, Aminu Mutiat,
Dauda Olamide and Ebuka Maduekwe.
Other proposed projects included in the U.S.A 2016 project calendar were not achieved due
to time constraint for planning, financial resources, general responsiveness of members and
certain incompetence on the part of the committee leaders.
A students credit facility project was introduced to enable students lend small non-interest
loans at times of emergency. The proposal was prepared by U.S.A executive -Oladeji Taiwo,
with the help of Ebuka Maduekwe for review. The proposal was never submitted for
approval or support due to the nature of project size and requirements, its sustainability
and long-term reliance on partnership. U.S.A wishes to partner with similar bodies and
interested organizations in the project in the nearest future.
Cyber fraud awareness program was proposed by U.S.A executive- Farouq Tackie, but failed
to be executed due to planning availability and non-readiness of proposal.
A business training seminar for U.S.A members was planned to be organized towards end of
session to educate members on human resource development and entrepreneur skills. The
planning committee was Onafowokan Ayopo, an executive. The seminar strategies was
prepared but failed to be executed.

20. UNIVERSITY OF LAGOS STUDENTS’ ASSEMBLY (U.S.A) REPORT 2015/2016 Session
Summary
The totality of U.S.A activities this session can be termed as stability accomplishment. At
year 2013 and 2013/14 academic session, U.S.A established its core objectives and
executives project Career Census, producing a 1st time project report. The report also
contained a lineup of projects planned for the next session tagged as 2014/15 Project
Calendar. 2014/15 session achievements and success confirmed the capability of U.S.A to
deliver innovative projects and its credibility to partner with more brands/organizations.
Over the years, U.S.A as a students' society operating on campus has been able to achieve
consistency and guarantee continuity through its approved constitution that regulates
membership and duty dispensation. The stability and continuity is indeed ensured with the
commitment of its members, advice of Mentors (alumni and former executives), project
delivery strategies, cooperation of the club's governing body and financial buoyancy.
This session the Assembly organized a major career event that trained students in 10 career
fields/skills and also referred other students to professionals for mentorship. Efforts to place
a sign board on campus to execute "U.S.A Dress Well" campaign project lasted till end of
session. Career guides and tips were posted periodically on U.S.A Blackberry Messenger
Channel (c0020206f). Other projects planned for delivery as shown in 2016 project calendar
were not totally executed. Major achievements were also made with the approval of U.S.A
Continuity Plan, numerous project endorsements, approval of U.S.A Ambassadorship
package as a funds raising strategy and school representation at events.
Major challenges were encountered in raising funds, beginning with club registration
renewal with the governing body, to project delivery logistics and required resources. The
U.S.A alumni body (Assembly Mentors) was fully set up on Whatsapp chat group as an
advisory body to the students’ assembly society.
Conclusion
The Assembly remains ever grateful to every member, alumni, the school, supporting
bodies/organizations and well-wishers for every role played; for their interest in U.S.A
projects.
The students’ assembly will continue to deliver its re-occurring projects and other
introduced ones. The society will remain a students' empowering body driven by project
minded members.
All financial supports can be made to U.S.A official bank account. Thank you for your
interest.
