3. We, as a company, Stratgem, are purposefully writing this informative blog to
create awareness and share knowledge about pneumatic conveying systems with
those who are very much interested in them.
Everyone knows that a specific system is required for the transportation of dry
bulk materials or powders. In this kind of process, dry bulk materials or
or powders are carried, transported, or shifted from one destination to another
using compressed air or gases like nitrogen. The bulk materials, or granules, are
transferred or shifted through tubes or an enclosed conveying pipeline by the
collective force of pressure, and for that, compressed air or gas is used. Air
movers such as positive displacement blowers or vacuums can generate the
pressure and air flow, which are then used to convey the materials. That’s why, by
controlling the pressure differential and air flow, the system can effectively
convey or shift the materials over certain places or distances.
4. Air development devices such as fans, root blowers, or blowers perfectly
create this air flow pressure. The pneumatic conveyor system is a cost-
effective, or in other words, economical, system because it transfers or
shifts powdered and granular materials successfully with very little loss,
stops environmental pollution, and keeps the materials themselves clean
and free of contaminants.
Many process industries, including chemicals and detergents, pet food,
food and beverage, renewable energy, and specialty materials, now rely on
Stratgem's cost-effective pneumatic conveyor system.
Whenever powder or bulk material is used in a plant, it should be
transported or shifted in a systematic manner, as well as with the help of
material handling equipment. These systems safely transfer or shift items
or objects from one place to another, and they typically come in the form
5. Stratgem, based in Pune, India, creates pneumatic conveying
systems that are much more reasonable and economical than other
mechanical systems. Our pneumatic conveying systems are
completely enclosed, reasonably controlled, and easily modifiable.
Instead of mechanical systems, they are more environmentally
friendly. Because of their enclosed design, they keep the materials
conveyed safe and free of harmful foreign matter.
6. There are two types of pneumatic conveying systems.
Dilute phase conveying system
Dense phase conveying system
Each type can convey materials using either a vacuum or a pressure method.
These types can be distinguished by their operating principles, which refer to
the type of material that can be moved and the source of airflow.
7. Dilute-phase pneumatic
conveying
Dilute-phase pneumatic conveying is described
as the process of (pressure) pushing or (vacuum)
pulling particles suspended in air from one
location to another. At low pressure and high
velocity, the air-suspended particles are
transferred continuously.
Mainly, there are two main types of Dilute-phase
conveying systems:
dilute-phase pressure
conveying
positive pressure systems
8.
9. Dilute-phase pressure conveying
In dilute-phase pressure conveying, a gas, such as air, is
used to suspend and transport particulate materials
through a pipeline. This method is the most commonly
used for transporting dry materials because it is
nonabrasive, resilient, and has a low bulk density over
long distances. Such materials used in this method
include plastic grains, sugar, and flour.
Positive pressure systems
In positive pressure systems, the gas is supplied to the
inlet of the conveying pipeline at a pressure higher than
the atmospheric pressure. This causes the mixture to flow
through the pipeline under positive pressure.
10. How Positive Pressure Systems Work
In this type of system, an air mover, commonly a positive
displacement blower, is fixed at the start of the system to supply
a high volume of low-pressure air.
A feeder and rotary airlock valve are placed next in the line after
the blower, which helps to methodically "feed" the materials into
the line.
As the materials enter the line, an air stream supplied by the
blower quickly pushes and suspends the particles from one
location to another.
The method is commonly used to convey materials from a single
destination to multiple locations
11. How Dilute Phase Vacuum Systems
Work
Vacuum systems: In vacuum systems, the gas is
exhausted from the conveying pipeline, creating a
vacuum that causes the mixture to flow through the
pipeline under negative pressure.
Dilute Phase Vacuum
Systems
It operates in the exact opposite manner as pressure conveying.
To pull material from a storage hopper, a positive displacement vacuum
provides negative pressure.
The vacuum pump is placed at the opposite end of the line to supply the suction
needed to pull material from one location to the next.
A vacuum relief valve is used to control the negative pressure in the system and
ensure that the right amount of material is delivered to its destination or multiple
locations.
12. Dense phase conveying
system
Dense phase pneumatic conveying is the process of pushing
(pressure) or pulling (vacuum) particles that are not
suspended in the conveying air. The densely transported
materials are transferred at high pressure and low speed
(velocity).
Dense phase conveying is classified into two
types:
Dense-phase pressure conveying
Dense-phase vacuum conveying
13.
14. Dense-phase pressure conveying
The dense-phase pressure conveying method is
commonly used to convey abrasive or fragile
materials over great distances at extremely low
speeds.
Beans, cocoa, hazelnuts, cereal, candies, and
glass particles are examples of materials
commonly transferred using this method.
This system is known for the benefit of starting
or stopping with the conveying line full of
material.
15. How dense-phase pressure conveying works
Material conveyed by this type of method is first loaded into a
pressure vessel or blow pot.
Once the blow pot is filled, the material vent and inlet valve are
closed, and compressed air is pushed into the vessel.
The compressed air pushes the material from the vessel and into the
conveying line, where it reaches its destination.
"The process is restarted once all of the material in the vessel and
conveying line has been transferred. It is common to install air
injectors or jets along the length of the conveying line to help boost
the material.
16. Dense-phase vacuum conveying
Dense-phase vacuum conveying systems are used for the
transport of abrasive or fragile materials over short
distances at low speeds.
Dense-phase vacuum conveying is commonly used to
unload materials from rail cars and trucks in a fluidized
state.
It has also been used for pharmaceutical and food
applications.
How it works:
These types of systems use vacuum pumps to convey material
from a silo or hopper to a receiving vessel known as a vacuum
hopper.
When the vacuum hopper is full, the material is then ejected
to a destination silo. After all the material has been conveyed
from the silo or hopper, the process can be repeated to transfer
additional material as needed.
