28th May is International Menstrual Hygiene Day. It's common for sanitary product brands to take this opportunity to promote disposable sanitary pads and tampons. We want women to take a step back and understand the impact of these disposables on the environment and understand about reusable alternatives before choosing. This presentation seeks to address two issues in India. Breaking the Taboo about Menstruation and educating people about sustainable menstrual products - reusable menstrual cups and reusable cloth pads.
3. At one point in our own cultural history, menses was revered
and respected. Over time, it’s been downgraded to a dirty
secret women should lock away
Imagine, sitting in a common
hut, resting and talking and
gossiping with your gal pals
for 2-4 days a month! If you
hadn’t hit puberty, you would
be waiting for it!
If it no longer adds to fun in
life, we should discard it!
4. A study by Basra found that 71% of
girls in India report having no
knowledge of menstruation before their
first period.
At menarche, schoolgirls in Jaipur,
Rajasthan report their dominant feelings
to be
shock (25%)
fear (30%)
anxiety (69%)
guilt (22%)
frustration(22%).
Lets stop
hiding our
periods – in
fact show our
period some
pride
Louise Hay suggests that period problems involve some
level of rejection of the feminine self, possibly due to fear,
guilt, or shame. Menstruation is a fundamental symbol of
womanhood, so I ask all my female patients with
menstrual difficulties how they feel about being a woman.

8. Your Periods Talk -
Listen to its message
Your body indicates underlying health
issues through warning signals. Take
heed and meet your doctor.
- Heavy Bleeding
- Trickle
- Irregular
- Blood Colour Change
- Bright Cranberry Red, regular cycle -
be happy, nothing’s amiss, you’re in
perfect good health!
Medical Conditions are varied – only a
professional can offer correct diagnoses
and treatments – Don’t shy away from
meeting your doctor to discuss your
periods.
Women who don’t trust their bodies, don’t trust
their feelings. Women who don’t trust their
feelings don’t use their voices. And women
who don’t use their voices don’t need to be
silenced. They silence themselves.
