Reference Information
This memo is in reference to contract engineering support of Steve Maytum.
To Whom it May Concern:
I have had the opportunity to work with Steve Maytum on the Cummins B-Series engine in the
Dodge Ram pickup from 2001-2005. I have also had the opportunity to have Steve work for me
on the Cummins V903 engine from 2012 to 2016.
In both timeframes, Steve has been very instrumental in creating solutions to engineering
problems. On the Dodge Ram pickup, he worked on various plumbing designs, as well as lube
system components and bracketry. All of his designs were solid and well principled and passed
the rigorous endurance testing requirements with very few if any issues. Steve is well versed in
the latest version of PTC’s Creo 3D modeling package. He is also familiar with the supporting
Windchill application for cad data management. While working on the V903 engine, Steve was
able to design a cast aluminum oil pan that met the conflicting requirements of two different
vehicle applications, and work with the casting supplier to bring the component to production
PPAP phase. He has completed numerous wiring harness, and fuel and lube plumbing designs,
employing an excellent grasp of both cad modeling skills and spatial design skills. Steve has
worked well with our Applied Mechanics group to schedule and support mechanical pull tests on lift
brackets that he has designed. He has maintained a good rapport with the people on the engine
assembly line, and successfully has used their direct feedback to improve his designs for easier
assembly. Steve’s ability to work well both with customers and suppliers (external and internal)
allows for quick resolution to issues as they arise.
He has been a valuable asset over his years of service to Cummins. His release from contract is
not performance related, but due to financial reductions.
