1. To Whom It May Concern,
Drawing from my experience as a Copywriter for Kaleido Inc. and a Technical Writer for the Ensuren
Corporation, I have cultivated a passion for learning and writing about new technology. Every day I
make sure to keep up with new, advancing technology through Social Media. With my work experience
and tenacity to better myself, I feel that I can be an asset as a Technical Writer. Would you consider
me for the position?
A year after graduating from college, I started my technical writing career at Ensuren. I was made
responsible to lead four network engineers to write a 200-page User Guide for a high-grade industrial
facilities and enrichment plants with deeply complex computer system. Majority of my time was spent
unifying the language of the document since the four engineers I worked with had a wide variety of
writing skills and voice. One of the engineers was a high school grad from the 1980s, while another held
two Master Degrees. Along with making sure the text was uniform and consistent, I was also tasked to
ensure that the engineers made strict submission deadlines because my deadline – the final deadline –
could not be extended. Occasionally, someone did not meet their deadline and I was forced to work
longer in the day so that the document would be ready for delivery. Other aspects of my job were to
establish a page layout that made the document attractive and representative of the company.
After my stint as a technical writer for Ensuren, I was hired for a three month contract at Kaleido Inc.
As a copywriter for Kaleido Inc., I had found myself writing up to 3,000 words on many days. Majority
of my day revolved around research however. Kaleido Inc. was contracted by many Wealth
Management firms that sought original and well-developed pieces that stand out against the norm. I
was tasked to researching topics on different blog subjects. I researched such subjects as retirement
planning, college planning, preparing taxes, how to spend tax refunds optimally, how to invest in bull
and bear markets, and finding the best insurances for an individual and their family. I also was tasked
to creating Editorial Calendars, where I created a spreadsheet of Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn posts
for one of Kaleido’s clients. Researching took up majority of my time each day. If I wasn’t researching
financial planning subjects, I was researching the company I was writing for and if I wasn’t researching
the company, I was researching the person who I was ghostwriting for. Copywriting taught me to be
resourceful and an independent worker who didn’t rely on others to help me to finish a tasked
assignment.
I first started my writing career as a Freelancer for Examiner.com. Although they did pay, it was
difficult to make money for Examiner since they paid one-cent for every two views on average. I spent
a substantial amount of my college free time to write book reviews for Examiner to develop my voice
for a wide audience of people. My articles met Associated Press standards and ranged around from
four-hundred words to double of that. Writing for a wide audience and learning how to market myself
proved to be a difficult task, but overtime writing for Examiner, as well as my time at Kaleido Inc., I
learned how to get people to read my reviews. These techniques prove to be successful as I now write
my own blog on Wordpress where each blog posting I have, I usually have one or two more readers
subscribed to my blog. With eleven blog posts, I have now over 80 subscribers.
