Soulard St. Louis Mardi Gras: 12th Night (Sat. Jan. 6, 5-8 pm) — Celebrate
a Soulard tradition, Twelfth Night, marking the start of Carnivale (Mardi Gras) sea-
son. For the past several years, Soulard has been ushering in its favorite time of the
year in style. The festivities start at 5:00 p.m. with the petitioning of the Mardi Gras,
Inc. Board of Directors. Dignitaries, parade krewes, community organizations, and
anyone else of good will and cheer is encouraged to make a creative appeal for the

“The Marvelous Wonderettes” at the Loretto-Hilton Center for the Performing Arts at
Webster University (Fri. Jan. 5, 8-11 pm; Sat. Jan. 6, 24-7 pm; & Sun. Jan. 7, 2-5 pm) — The pop doesn’t
stop in this smash hit musical! A high school prom in 1958 and a 10-year reunion in 1968 provide the backdrop
for some of the biggest hits of both decades, performed by an irrepressible quartet of young women. Featuring a
stacked playlist that includes “Mr. Sandman,” “It’s in His Kiss,” “Respect,” “Son of a Preacher Man” and more, it’s

Steinberg Skating Rink (Open every day; extended hours through Jan. 7, 10 am-midnight) — Steinberg is
the largest outdoor ice skating rink in the Midwest, offering public skating all day, every day, no matter what the
temperature is. Skate admission is valid all day, and skaters can arrive at anytime during business hours and
skate as long as they like. No sessions offered, with open public skating all day. No private events. The Snow-
flake Cafe offers appetizers, sandwiches, snacks, burgers, soda, hot chocolate, beer and wine, and is open during

First Fridays at the St. Louis Science Center—Star Wars (Sat. Dec. 30, 5-7 pm) — Geek out on the
first Friday of every month with hands-on activities and a special theme evening. This Friday’s theme is “Star
Wars,” where you can learn how to wield a light saber and other Jedi skills. Hear the latest in planetary science
and exoplanet discoveries from Michael C. Bouchard, PhD candidate in Earth and Planetary Science at Washing-

St. Louis Children’s Hospital Fit Kid at the Magic House in Kirkwood (Fri. Jan. 5, 4-7 pm) — On the
first Friday of every month, kids are invited to spend some free time getting fit at Fit Kid at the Magic House in
Kirkwood. Sponsored by St. Louis Children’s Hospital, kids 12 and under who complete a fitness challenge upon
