Shape your Knowledge throughMaking Logical Decisions
Students will need access to computers to be able to participate in the ABE
programby in public or private schools. The modules are designed to monitor and
shapethe behavior for minor and other infractions. The computer based lesson is
designed to teach students about accepting responsibility for their actions. The
ISS classroomshould notbe used as a holding area to keep students from
participating in the classroom. Students becomevery agitated, when they are
assigned ISS 5 or more days. Students get behind in their academic work and miss
out on direct instructions. Students need to be given the opportunity to complete
their time and transition back in the classroom. Many ISS Coordinatorscontinue
to have the samestudent in the classroomfor an extended amount of time. The
students become furious with the ISS Coordinator and refuseto comply with
directions. The teacher is now faced with the additional stress of not being able to
providepositive reinforcement to shapethe behavior in the classroom. This
affects the ISS classroomenvironment. If a studentcontinues to be in ISS for 16 or
more days, they began to not careabout the consequence. Some students are
given ISS for the restof the schoolyear. Subsequently, have we as educator failed
the students fromattaining the knowledgeto be successfulon EOG’S?

Possible Solutions/PBIS Gearedtoshape behavior
Please monitor studentbehavior beforeit becomes detrimental to the learning
environment. Give students the opportunity to participate in character education
services with counselors or other designated staff members. This classroom
should be designed to teach desired behaviors. Work outa scheduleto
implement this strategy as an intervention beforeassigning students to the ISS
classroom. This intervention will provideongoing documentation to submit to
Student SupportServices if the studentcontinues not to meet school
expectations.
