3. Mission Statement
UNICORN GROUP, YOUR LEARNING & DEVELOPMENT PARTNER
WE ENABLE YOU TO…
•
... bridge the knowing-doing gap.
“Understanding something" is one thing ...
Actually "behaving accordingly" is another !
•
... increase the effectiveness of individuals, teams and organisations.
“Effectiveness is obtaining your desired results,
not once, but again and again and again…”
- Stephen R. Covey
5. Core Activities
Transformation: We transform your organisational culture, through our Cascading Methodology. We will
get to the heart of the business and resolve it from the inside out leaving your organisation stronger, fitter
and culturally transformed. E.g. Strategy Implementation, New Ways of Working, Installing Feedback
Culture, …
Leadership Pipeline: We help our clients to understand (1) what kind of leadership they need to
deliver on their strategy for the future and (2) the (potential) leadership they have today. But
moreover, we train the leaders to close the detected gap - and to keep it closed. E.g. High
Potential Development Tracks, Leadership Seminars, New Hire Training Weeks, …
Sr. Team Journey: We offer team journeys focused on developing the effectiveness of sr. teams and
their leaders, often in high change/tension situations (e.g. new CEO, post merger, large change,
new int.teams, teams in crisis …). E.g. Partner Camps, Strategy Development, Classical Team
Training (team building, increasing team effectiveness…), Ambition Setting, …

7. Unicorn DNA | No-nonsense Theory
The gap between theory and practice is usually not as wide in theory as it is in
practice.
PRINCIPLE: Unicorn believes in the effectiveness of ‘no-nonsense theory’: simple
concepts, to the point and powerful, which can impact the behaviour of the
participants. We can rely on a backpack filled with useful models, such as the
Unicorn 5F Model developed based on key ideas from scientific research and
inspirational literature such as Covey, Collins, Ram Charan, Rens van Loon,…
During preparation, we will select together with you the framework which offers
the best fit with the objectives, company culture, concepts already embedded in
the organisation, current use of language,…
IMPLEMENTATION: Each building block during the seminar starts with a short & fresh
presentation from the selected theoretical framework. Of course, we can also
send pre-reading documents a few weeks before the start of the seminar, to
allow participants to read & prepare. This way, we can limit the theoretical time
investment during the seminar and focus optimally on concrete learning
moments.
8. Unicorn DNA | Constructive Confrontation
Life starts at the end of your comfort zone.
PRINCIPLE: No learning without constructive confrontation! High performing
individuals, teams and organisations do not stay safely within their zone of
comfort, but actively seek confrontation.
IMPLEMENTATION: After the theoretical presentation, the participants are divided into
sub teams (max. 5 participants per coach) and are offered a challenging
strategic outdoor workshop. Important note – this is not a survival exercise!
During the workshop, nature does play a crucial role, not at all as a physical
challenge, but offering a safe learning environment and opportunity to learn.
9. Unicorn DNA | Feedback
The higher you get in an organization, the less likely people are to give you candid
feedback. Feedback is your life-support system!
PRINCIPLE: At the heart of Unicorn is professional & in-depth feedback. Experience
tells us that open & honest feedback, with a clear translation towards daily
practice, is essential to learn, develop & deliver sustainable results.
IMPLEMENTATION: After each outdoor workshop comes the most important part of
the seminar: the feedback session (integration of individual / peer / team
coaching). All insights & experiences are discussed in the small sub teams
together with the Unicorn coach. The participants give and receive open &
constructive feedback. Unicorn holds up a mirror to confront them with their
(in)effective habits, thinking patterns, competencies,… on individual, team and
organisational level.
10. Unicorn DNA | Psychological Safety
It takes both guts and a good parachute to jump out of an airplane.
PRINCIPLE: An optimal learning process faces participants with a high-adrenaline
situation and challenges them to leave their zone of comfort, while continuously
guaranteeing psychological safety.
IMPLEMENTATION: During the seminar, the loop of theory / workshop / feedback is
repeated, offering the participants the chance to incorporate the feedback &
insights and experiment with new behaviour during the next workshop… and
receiving new feedback. Participants will be guided throughout this journey by
a coach, pushing people out of their comfort zones and holding up a mirror to
them, but always ensuring that all of this happens in a constructive way. This
makes the seminar a safe learning environment & practice field.
11. Unicorn DNA | Mindset
Picture your brain forming new connections as you meet the challenge and learn.
PRINCIPLE: To achieve sustainable results, you need to push out the boundaries of
your own behaviour, skills & competencies and dare to question the effectiveness
of your mindset.
IMPLEMENTATION: During the feedback session, the Unicorn coach will challenge &
encourage the participants to discover which habits & behaviours drive their
mindset, and also question the effectiveness of that mindset. This way, the coach
facilitates a ‘mindset-shift’, enabling the participants to perceive reality in a new
and more effective manner.
12. Unicorn DNA | Transfer of Learning
The world does not pay for what a person knows, it pays for what a person does with
what he knows.
PRINCIPLE: We do not believe in ‘one-shot’ events. After the seminar, we need to set
in motion a strict follow-up process to ensure the implementation of learning and
action points and increase the effectiveness of the training track.
IMPLEMENTATION: At the end of the seminar, we always include time to translate all
learning points into a concrete action plan (individual / team level). We are also
happy to share ideas and tools for follow-up initiatives, organised by the
participants themselves, HR or supported by Unicorn.
