THE STATE THEATRE PRESENTS THE UPCOMING EVENTS FOR SEPTEMBER 1 – 30
STATE COLLEGE, Pa., Aug. 15- The State Theatre is pleased to announce an eclectic series of events for the month of
September. The community is invited to join The State for the next Contemporary Play Reading, a variety of films, some
iconic musical performances, and the next National Theatre Live showing.
September 11 at 7:30 p.m., The State presents Fuse Production’s The New Normal, a musical theatre remembrance
of 9/11. On September 11, 2001 we knew our world would never be the same. Join together for this unique and stirring look
at our world today- through the eyes of both children and adults. This remembrance/memorial piece was conceived and
arranged by The State’s Artistic Director, Richard Biever and features five powerful performers from the Penn State Musical
Theatre program.
September 12 at 7:30 p.m.,The United States of Autism is a documentary film that follows one man's 11,000 mile,
40-day journey across America to visit with twenty families affected by autism while searching for answers for his son.
Immediately after the film, the community is invited to participate in a Q&A with the director, Richard Everts, and/or Sugey
Cruz-Everts.
September 15 at 2 p.m., Join The State for Annie Hall, the next film in the “Greats at the State” series. Annie Hall
follows the romantic adventures of neurotic New York comedian Alvy Singer and his equally neurotic girlfriend, Annie Hall.
This four Academy Award-winning film traces the course of their relationship from their first meeting, and serves as an
interesting historical document about love in the 1970s.
September 19: Enjoy an evening of humor or music at The State Theatre.
8 p.m., Catch all-original musical comedy cabaret, Happy Pink Girl Sings!in The Attic. Happy Pink Girl
Sings!chronicles Sarah’s journey through music and life. This musical comedy tells the story of everything…from growing up
as an awkward kid to living the life of an actor in Florida’s theme parks. If you enjoy lighthearted happiness and the
occasional ukulele ditty, this is the show for you. Happy Pink Girl Sings!will be performed in The Attic again on September 20
at 8 p.m.
8 p.m., Enjoy the music of Judy Collins, legendary American singer and songwriter, who is back at The State and
performing in the Friedman Auditorium. Collins is known for hits such as her Grammy award-winning Both Sides Now and
also Send in the Clowns. Don’t miss this very special evening with a musical legend!
September 22 at 4 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., Catch documentary film Evocateur: The Morton Downey Jr. Movie at The
State. Before entire networks were built on popular personalities, before reality morphed into a TV genre, the masses
fixated on a single, sociopathic star: controversial talk-show host, Morton Downey, Jr. You won’t want to miss this film!

September 24 at 7 p.m., Grab a beer and chat about science in a relaxed atmosphere at the Lunar Lion Science Pub
in The Attic. Join in or just listen up... either way, you'll enjoy a beer with friends and leave armed with a few fun facts and a
new appreciation for science! Each pub will involve dynamic speakers who spark the conversation and then open up the
floor to discussion.
September 26 at 7 p.m., National Theatre Live presents a completely new production of Othello, William
Shakespeare’s celebrated play about the destructive power of jealousy. Olivier Award-winning actor Adrian Lester (Henry V
at the National Theatre, BBC’s Hustle) takes the title role. Playing opposite him as the duplicitous Iago is fellow Olivier
Award-winner Rory Kinnear (The Last of the Haussmans, James Bond: Skyfall).
September 28: Relax with an evening of music and film at The State.
7 p.m., Documentary film Chasing Ice comes to The State. Follow National Geographic photographer James Balog
across the Arctic as he deploys time-lapse cameras to capture a multi-year record of the world's changing glaciers.
8 p.m., Enjoy State College singer songwriter duo Jmac& Junior in The Attic at The State. The duo’s music features a
mixture of roots and blues music including songs and stories from their new album.
September 29 at 7:30 p.m., Fuse Productions presents 4000 MILES as the next in the Contemporary Play Reading
Series. This dramatic comedy play reading tells the story of 21 year-old Leo, who after suffering a major loss while he was on
a cross-country bike trip seeks solace from his feisty 91 year-old grandmother Vera in her West Village apartment. Over the
course of a single month, these unlikely roommates infuriate, bewilder, and ultimately connect with each other. 4000 MILES
looks at how two outsiders find their way in today's world. The community is invited to participate in post-play reading
discussion about the issues raised with the cast.
