2. In this photo what I think it might be trying to portray is the fact that black men
are not as welcomed in the workplace as white men are. The photo is showing a line of
workers who are all white except one. The one who is not white is being flicked away by
a hand.
I think this photo says a lot about racial discrimination in the workplace.
Statistically speaking blacks do get hired less on average than the white male. This photo
show that too. I notice how there are 5 white men and only one black. The artist is
trying to say that white men are getting hired more often than black men.
Even if they are hired they are treated differently than anyone else. I notice how
the black man is dressed in a different suit than they white men. I think this is trying to
give a reason other than he is black for him not to get the job. The company is trying to
say that it is because he is not following the specified dress code like the rest of the
workers.
Also I notice that there is a bigger gap in-between the black and the next white
worker than there is between all the workers. I think that this is representing the racial
gap in society. It is trying to say that black people will never be in the same group as
whites, they will always be left out. I also think this gap is trying to say that the black
man will always be a step behind everyone else in the accomplishments of the company.
He is not at the same point as what his white coworkers are.
3. Another thing I think that is going on in this photo is when the hand is flicking the
black man away it is not really trying to get rid of him. It is just harassing him trying to
get him to quit so that the company doesn’t have to fire him and get called racist. I say
this because of the fact that it looks like the hand is more aiming for his hair than the
rest of the body. It is trying to torture him into quitting. If the artist was trying to show
that the hand was trying to get rid of the person I feel like it would be picking him up
and throwing him out.
In this photo it is portraying that black men are not welcomed in the workplace
like white men are. They are not hired as often, they are treated as they are different
than everyone else, and they are harassed to the point of wanting to quit. This picture
proves that black are not treated like equals when it comes to getting jobs in big
business locations.
