MY NAME IS
SPENCER,
HELLO!
If I could perfectly lay out my workspace every time, it would look like this.
Thank you for viewing at my portfolio!
HERE’S MY TWO CENTS,
An idea is where every project starts. It is the base of creativity where
the mind constructs concepts and representations of an object. The idea
generated is the beginning of the graphic designer’s vision. Designers use
images to create clarity and simplify visual communication. Graphic design
is the hidden treasure chest and the designer holds the key to unlocking
all of the methodology in order to illustrate clear images that concisely
communicate the idea and save the world of comic sans users alike.
What distinguishes a good designer is the ability to clarify and create clear
explanations that ultimately simplify the message to engage the viewer. When
I design, I approach my projects with the assumption that the viewer has no prior
knowledge of the product or subject. In essence, I become a translator helping
the viewer understand the purpose and language of the design in the most
effective and efficient manner. The idea of clarity is vital so that designs are
easily expressed, understood and remembered. Clarity is the foundation of my
design style all the while focusing on the client’s desires and expectations.

HOWTOGOLF//
The goal that the designer has been challenged with is to
create an infographic that teaches the viewer how to complete
and understand something. The task at hand, is to appeal to
people around the age of 40 and those who have a general
interest in the sport. The work the designer has created will
help those that are interested in playing golf and teach them
the basics of how to golf.

ARNICARE//
In today’s era, medicine is a product that everyone will need to
buy at some point in their lifetime. When purchasing medicine,
consumers read the information on medicine packaging but
often times do not realize that without clarity, the user’s
experience can be obstructed and forgotten. I kept in mind that
the packaging must convey clear information that is easy to
read and will be remembered.

MUSCO//
The purpose for the project is to announce the opening
of the Spring 2016 Musco Center for the Arts, promote
Chapman University, provide interesting visual information
and communicate a sense of pride for Chapman University’s
accomplishments. The commemorative poster includes a wing
of Chapman University’s campus that displays an accurate
location as to where and what the building will look like
when finished.

XGAMES//
The rebrand focuses on the location where the games are being
held. Keeping in mind that the location is cold, many aspects
of the design focus on the idea of snow. The rebrand features a
new logo to represent the X Games, icon work, an application
for the event and wayfinding maps.

WIERWILLE//
Based on the Wierwille family history, the design focuses on
the origin of the name. Emphasizing the original French lineage,
Vierville-sur-Mer, aquatic elements are highlighted to show
the family’s relationship to the sea. Each label features a main
factor for traveling over water including an anchor, a ship’s
wheel and a trident. The labels also include a smaller icon in
the middle to help signify the location of the main illustration.

TOYSTORY//
The Toy Story website was designed to tell the story of the
movie. It explains the important scenes of how the movie
progresses, and informs the viewer of the overall plot. The
website was formatted so information was easily accessible
to both adults children.

PISCO//
I was hired by the wine tasting magazine, “The Tasting Panel”,
to create an infographic displaying the process of the traditional
ways grapes are turned into wine, titling it Peru’s Pisco, from
Grape to Glass. The infographic was published and distributed
and can be seen in the March 2015 volume.

FANTASTIC//
An italic condensed sans serif typeface that features stylized
angled pieces flying out of the characters. The concept of the
font was taken from the functionality of a fan whose purpose
is to create air movement. The style replicates the notion of a
“wind blown” effect, which is created by a fan blowing against
an object that results in the slanted nature of the italic font.

LOCKDOWN//
A designer was selected to create an infographic for a self-
tracking project. The problem was to arrange a large set of
personal information into a compelling and cohesive graphic
to convey a week’s worth of data. The data is from the
vector illustration work of a series the designer works on
called Heroes. The illustration featured in this infographic is
Lockdown from Transformers and the process it took to develop
and finish the piece.

FUSION//
The Fusion Campaign is an idea for Ford to launch their lastest
product in the eco-friendly market. Throughout the campaign,
viewers will see the efficiency of the Fusion through it’s
relevance to the economy, families, commuters as well as car
enthusiasts for all that it has to offer. The campaign will inform
viewers of what they can do, educate them on how to conserve
and “go green”.

FRESH//
The Fresh campaign is a cleaning supplies brand created by
a team of designers. The goal of the project was to appeal to
freshmen college students who are leaving home and possibly
cleaning for the first time. The kit was designed for students
to easily purchase all the essential cleaning supplies for dorm
or apartment life.

OISF//
A group of designers were hired to redesign the exisiting look
for the famous Orange International Street Fair. We were
required to create a theme including a logo, poster, banners,

HASBRO//
While an intern at Hasbro Studios, a global entertainment
company, I designed their sales guide for children’s
programming. The sales guide included all current television
series, their descriptions, and facts about each show. The
cohesive booklet will be used to show prospective clients
Hasbro’s entertainment product offerings.

HEROES//
I designed a line of projects of my own that I call Heroes.
These projects are a series of vector illustration posters that
are based off of recent well-known super hero movies. The
illustrations are of the Hero’s vehicle or ship that play a key
role in the movie.
