2. What is about your piece that would interest or attract
people from the target audience.
Show elements, screenshots
Blonde, alright looking victim, blood(element from
Hollywood), the ways we build up suspense
We leave them questioning, mystery to solve
Older audience, have the patience to wait for the end
Reflect on education, setting – country side, family dog,
nice house
The sound only starts when the puddle of blood is shown
and the sound supports the image which is a typical move
to do in Hollywood productions.
3. Elements in our piece that would interest or
attract people from our target audience.
Elements that are typically used to represent a Hollywood production Puddle of blood, alright
looking victim (blonde), broken bracelet with beads spread on the floor, bowl of muesli
knocked over and the footprints to show that there has been some action but it is not shown in
the sequence. But the point of this opening sequence is to show the dog’s journey and how it
leads to the murder. The action is not important which is why we didn’t show the murder taking
place in the kitchen. However, there is going to be a lot of action through out the film but we
wanted the opening sequence to be on the down low.
Small build up. Our target audience is 18 years old to 30 as we know that an older audience will
have more patience to wait for the buildup and the final shot in the opening sequence.
4. Location/setting
Countryside house, she is a privileged girl and you
agree that her family is wealthy which is
stereotypical for Hollywood where you see a nice
house in the middle of nowhere and a murder.
For example in “When a stranger calls” you see these
elements, the house, the girl, peaceful setting with a
creepy touch.
5. Character
Libby- owner of the house, appeal to young audience
because you can relate, feel sympathy for her
Tosh- typical family dog, not a bulldog or Rottweiler.
This helps the audience drift away from the clue so
that the ending will shock them. You know that the
dog isn’t going to be there to defend her owner
because he is not that type of dog. The audience will
then ask themselves different questions and will try
to figure the end.
6. Storyline
The storyline is a slow buildup and finishes with a twist.
However, through the film we see an increase in the speed
as we wanted to create tension. The story is about this girl
who lives with her dad and gets killed. Her father rages and
wants to take revenge. We wanted the film to have some
action but not enough for it to be an action film. We would
also include some psychological thriller scene where the
father would have break downs and suffer from depression
as a consequence to his daughter’s death. You could argue
that the beginning of the film is for two audiences: teenager
and adults up to 30 but still quite a young adult target
audience. This is because it is quite fast and so both
audiences would enjoy that kind of tension.
7. SUSPENSE
There are many elements of suspense that we
purposely put to attract our target audience:
- a shot of a puddle of blood
Some footprints
A bowl of muesli knocked over
Beads of a broken bracelet spread across the floor
