2. PHOTOSYNTHESIS
• (Photon - light, Synthesis - formation.)
• It is an intracellular anabolic process
takes place in plant cells.
• In photosynthesis, glucose molecule is
synthesised by using the simple inorganic
substances such as Carbon dioxide and
Water as a raw material in the presence
of light and chlorophyll pigment.
5. Why it occurs in plants?
• Plant's bears the green leaves which
help in photosynthesis.
• Leaves are green due to presence of
Chloroplast in mesophyll cells of the
plant tissue.
• Chloroplast contains the chlorophyll
pigment which is necessary in
photosynthesis.
6.
7. Structure of Chloroplast
A chloroplast is a type of organelle known as a
plastid, characterized by its two membranes and a
high concentration of chlorophyll. Other plastid
types, such as the leucoplast and the chromoplast,
contain little chlorophyll and do not carry out
photosynthesis
9. Light Reaction
• It takes place inside (Grana) the
thylakoid membrane.
• It takes place in presence of light hence
it is also called as Light dependent
reaction.
• It helps to synthesize :
1. Oxygen
2. ATP
3. NADPH.
10. DARK REACTION
• It takes place in stroma of the
Chloroplast.
• It is does not require light hence also
called as Light Independent
Reaction.
• It helps in the synthesis of
Carbohydrates (Glucose) by using
the end products of light reaction
i.e ATP and NADPH.
