From
Hill Country Indoor
At Hill Country Indoor, we are consistently driving
towards excellence and the ultimate user experience.
Our Guest Services team, located on the first level, is
typically the first face that visitors see when walking
through the doors. It is our goal to ensure that everyone
feels welcome and encouraged upon entering, as we
know how overwhelming and enchanting it can all feel
at first glance. With that being said, there are several
aspects of Guest Services that I am, personally, really
proud of, including customer service, cleanliness and
the evolution of our young employees.
As a department, we are connected in the
community in many different ways. Many of our
employees are either in high school or college and
one of their favorite parts about working at HCI is the
ability to build relationships with our members, as well
as regulars that come in for programs. They love being
able to engage with guests and their families, and
they feel incredibly special when members remember
their names or ask them how school is going. We are
solely committed to always improving ways that we
can serve our guests, whether escorting someone to
an unfamiliar part of the building, setting up goals on
the soccer field because a member's child needs extra
practice, or lowering a basketball goal for a family to
play a game of HORSE. Our goal is to facilitate any
potential need that a guest might have within the
facility.
Outside of personalized customer service, we
also aim to maintain a clean and pristine facility. I truly
believe that cleanliness speaks volumes to the level of
care and ownership a staff member takes in the facility.
Our staff takes great pride in creating an amazing
experience through the spotlessness of our facility,
from the bathrooms and bleachers to the café, the turf
field and the hard surface courts. Excellence is what
we work towards on a day-to-day basis. We are always
looking for opportunities to provide an incredible
experience. As a whole, we know that when people
come through our doors they are looking for an elite-
level experience. We strive to go above and beyond
these expectations, so please, ask us anything! If we
don’t know the answer we will find someone who
does.
One thing that stands out to me the most is our
ability, as Hill Country Indoor, to help mold the next
generation of business professionals. Each employee
at HCI is vetted and empowered to be an effective
employee and, eventually, leader. We strive to teach
each employee how to handle difficult situations, how
to react or not react, what exactly it means to go above
and beyond and the importance behind it. More than
anything, we want to educate employees on why
creating a lasting impression is such a high priority. It
has been amazing to see these young high schoolers
start with us as sophomores, graduate and go to
college, and continue to come back to us, year after
year, during their college breaks. We are passionate
about providing a lasting impression of excellence,
figuring out how to make each person's day just a little
bit better and facilitating a lasting experience. So, let
me ask...how can we help YOU?

4. Mobility is the muscles’ ability to move
around a joint, or how freely the joint
can move in its full range of motion.
Stability is the ability to maintain
control of joint position/movement
while acted upon by an external force.
In other words, mobility is movement
and stability is control. In the human
body, a series of joints interact to
provide mobility and stability during
motion. These joints include ankles,
knees, hips, lumbar spine (lower back),
thoracic spine/scapula (shoulder
blades) and shoulders.
Each of these joints have a specific
need during motion. We list the joints
from toe to head because they have
an alternating mobility/stability function
when moving from the ground up. The
ankle, hip and thoracic spine/scapula
provide mobility to allow the knee,
lumbar spine and shoulder joints to
When referring to a warm up,
cool down or even a workout
in general, many trainers,
coaches and instructors use the
words “mobility” and “stability”
to drive home the purpose
of a movement. While these
are great at surface level, it’s
important to understand the
actual definitions and purposes
of these frequently-used words.
maintain stability. By looking at the
human body this way, we are able
to paint a clear image of how human
movement works and how the entire
body is connected. If the mobility joints
move freely without restrictions, the
joints where control is important can
maintain stability and move safely.
However, if one of these joints loses its
primary function, it could send a chain
reaction either up or down the body.
One common example of this is
chronic knee pain that is not caused
by an injury. It is often assumed that
if the knee hurts, something must be
wrong with the knee. But, as stated
above, knee stability can be influenced
by ankle and hip mobility as well. The
ankle is responsible for controlling the
motion in the lower leg while the hip is
accountable for controlling the motion
in the upper leg. If those two mobility
joints are not moving as designed,
what gets caught in the middle? You’ve
got it – the knee. The internal structure
of the knee is designed to protect
against rotational torque and all motion
other than flexion and extension. When
the ankle allows the lower leg to move
appropriately and the hip allows the
upper leg to move properly, the knee
is able to flex and extend safely with
stability and, hopefully, less pain.
A proper warm-up that addresses
mobility and stability is an important
component to add to any training
session. Spending a little time before
and after each session can go a long
way in protecting your body and
enhancing your ability to workout and
enjoy life. Try this warm-up before your
next workout!
Elements of an effective warm-up:
Increase joint viscosity,
the blood flow to all primary joints in the body.
Address known and unknown mobility issues.
Take a little extra time to work on the areas that
may need more mobility.
Activate muscle groups that match your workout.
Get the body in the proper position that mimics
your primary exercise of the day.
Movement!
Perform some sort of locomotion or fundamental
movement pattern to activate the neural
connections between the brain and muscles.
By Chris Meadows,
AIM Performance Coach

More than a workout...
Do it for YOU. The benefits of physical fitness are numerous,
including better sleep, lower stress levels, increased energy,
lower body fat levels and increased confidence. Staying
accountable to a workout program will, in turn, increase
your mood and productivity outside of the gym. Fitness is
more than the hour spent in a gym, it's what you can do
outside of the gym.

Q:
Positive Baseball is a baseball/softball training
company that helps players learn and enjoy the
game. We began Positive Baseball in 1999 and have
set out to mentor players every step of the way,
including youth, high school, college and beyond.
What is Positive Baseball?
A:
Q:
Mentally, we try to encourage each player to strive
to do his/her best and to maintain a positive attitude
in a game that is arguably the toughest sport, both
mentally and physically. Physically, we build on
what each individual athlete naturally possesses.
There is more than one philosophy on how to hit,
pitch, throw and catch. We do not immediately
start changing kids unless we see something that
might cause an injury later on in life. We believe
in sound fundamentals and specialize in positive
reinforcement of these fundamentals.
What is your coaching philosophy?
A:
Q:
We build lifelong relationships with our players.
We impact athletes' lives and work for each individual
to understand the importance of perseverance in
life, as well as sports. Winning is easy, but how you
handle your failure is what will make or break you.
Maintaining a positive attitude, working hard and
being an encouraging individual will take you further
in life and sports than anything else.
Why should athletes train with Positive Baseball?
A:
Q:
Confidence and the desire to become a better
person and a better student athlete.
What do you want players to walk away with?

12. Over the past year, we had made drastic changes
to our lifestyle and wanted these changes to be
reflected onto our kids. To mitigate both issues,
we took the plunge and joined HCI.
The Power family joined Hill Country Indoor in July 2017, prior to the facility being open. During this
time, HCI was providing tours to prospects in an effort to showcase what would soon be available to
members. Kim immediately saw the potential and, after discussing with her husband, Sean, and taking
their two children, Michael and Brynne, into consideration, they signed up for a
family membership.
"When we joined, our family was struggling with how to balance
an active lifestyle and quality time," Sean said. "My wife and
I kept separate gym memberships and were never able
to workout together on weekends. This quickly led
to waning motivation for both of us. Over the

we were first thinking about joining
is how big of an impact it would
make on our kids."
The Power family joined
and immediately immersed
themselves into the culture
and community of Hill
Country Indoor. Through
youth and adult athletics,
recreational activities,
consistency on the weight floor and
track, they have all been able to set
and achieve goals – together.
"All in all, we joined to get us all at the
same place at the same time," Sean
reflected. "Once the doors opened, we
quickly figured out that this was just
what we needed. The kids were able
to play and climb in the ZONE while
Kim and I worked out together."
Knowing that they were setting an
example for their children, Kim and
Sean worked daily to uphold healthy
and fit habits for them and their kids.
"About six months into our lifting
routine, Michael showed interest in
getting in the weight room," Sean
said. "We know that life lessons can
come from working out, so I found it
important to fuel that interest by lifting
with him. He’s been going strong ever
since. Brynne just recently turned 10
and asked for workout clothes and
shoes for her birthday, specifically
so she could start working out with
us. She’s now an active member of
the Power workout crew and is so
confident on the floor."
"HCI has everything for us," Kim added.
"From the fitness floor, activities for the
kids, the kids' club if they don't want to
workout. There are just so many things
to do."
Each and every Saturday, the Power
family comes to HCI at 7am to workout
together. Through this routine, they
have all been able to see lasting
results and have formed a bond that
they can build on outside of the facility.
Kim
noted,
"Since
we've
joined, my
husband
and I have lost
weight, we've
gotten stronger,
the kids have gained
confidence in the gym
learning how to do new
things and probably gained
some strength themselves!"
While the transformation is seen on
the outside, there is also a change that
has taken place within the relationship.
"I've lost 28 pounds and 7% bodyfat,"
Sean said. "My wife has lost 11 pounds
and 5% bodyfat. But, most importantly,
HCI gives us all something to strive
towards. We enjoy quality family time
together and every member of our
family looks forward to time here."
There's more to Hill Country Indoor
than a fitness center. Within the facility,
members have access to hard surface
courts and an indoor turf field.
"If we don’t want to be in the gym,
we’re all out on the soccer field or
throwing basketballs
around the court," Sean continued.
"Both of our kids even played youth
soccer this year and absolutely loved
it. I’ve played two seasons of co-ed
soccer and, although realizing I’m
not 25 anymore, keep coming back
for more. HCI has turned into a major
part of our lives and we’re so glad we
decided to take the plunge!"
Hill Country Indoor is incredibly
grateful for our members, like the
Power family, who have made the
culture what it currently is. If you
have a story you'd like to share, we
want to hear about it! Contact us
at info@hillcountryindoor.com or
visit hillcountryindoor.com. If you're
looking for a facility to call home, we
would love to have you. We believe
that we are more than a gym, but a
community and an experience. Come
find out why you and your family are
