ABOUT
HCI
3
As the Human Resource team at Hill Country Indoor, it has been such a pleasure to be
part of HCI’s first full year of operation - and what a year it was! The first 12 months after
opening our doors showcased the hard work and dedication our staff put in to help create the
amazing environment HCI offers our community. We dubbed 2018 the year of growth as we
more than DOUBLED our work force, and welcoming a total of 177 new employees to the HCI
family. Serving as an incredible place to both work and play, HCI has undoubtedly become
one of the area’s leading employers.
In our many years of practice in the HR field, we have never before had the opportunity to
serve such a diverse and exceptional work force as we do here. Not only does HCI have some
of the most experienced professionals from the fitness and business management world, it
also employs students from many of the local schools, as well as college students from in and
around the area.
We feel especially inspired by the students and young adults we have worked with since 2018.
For our student employees, who are often joining HCI as their very first job, we strive to provide
a place for them to learn how to work. We take the responsibility of guiding and molding their
personal and professional development very seriously. So many of our summer camps and
leagues were successful last year thanks to the energy and hard work our college employees
brought while on summer break. Over the holiday break, we were so thrilled to see several
familiar faces return to pick up shifts at HCI while back in the Lake Travis area. Knowing that
many of them chose to spend their holiday break with us speaks volumes to the culture and
community HCI has created under our roof, and only encourages us to grow in this aspect.
In the same regard, we are honored to work alongside some of the most dedicated and
professional team members in the fitness and recreation industry. From welcoming guests
as the face of HCI, to providing our members with the very best experience, these team
members are on the front lines every single day, developing relationships with athletes of all
ages and treating our members and guests like family. We are also particularly thankful for
the tireless hours our department leaders and administrative team put in behind-the-scenes
each week to consistently ensure every event and program runs seamlessly and every guest
experience exceeds expectations.
At HCI, we aim to create a team with unique skills who share our commitment to the
development of our community and our belief that sports, fitness and recreation are building
blocks for health, leadership and character development. We are confident that every HCI
team member has joined us in this commitment, helping us earn the desired reputation as
a facility for sports excellence with unmatched customer service and, ultimately, helping HCI
become a valued asset to our community.
DIRECTLY FROM #ONTHEHILL
Here at HCI, we believe that by cultivating and maintaining an exciting team atmosphere
for our employees, we help create a place that YOU love to visit (even when you work
here!). Unquestionably, what we do as an employer has significant impact on YOUR overall
experience as a member. And we are so proud of how our HCI staff is doing! We hope you are
too!

Finding balance in our lives
is a challenging goal. New
Year’s Resolutions often
revolve around seeking
this goal with aspirations
to spend more time with
family, take up a new
hobby or exercise more. Hill
Country Indoor provides a
variety of sports and fitness
opportunities for all ages
to help achieve all three of
these objectives. However,
even with fitness choices, we
need to strive for balance.
Fitness is a complex concept
and can be confusing and
misleading. In the past we
equated fitness with our
physical appearance. Now,
with the advent of wearable
technology, we look at
metrics such as heart rate
or calories burned as an
indicator of fitness. AIM takes
a much more comprehensive
approach to evaluating
fitness through SIX PRIMARY
COMPONENTS:
The ability of a muscle or muscles to apply force.
The body is built upon a series of joints that require
balance between mobility and stability. STRENGTH is
what provides that stability. Strength creates the shock
absorbers that take the stress away from the body’s
joints and bones.
The ability of a muscle or muscles
to apply maximum force in minimal
time. The ability to be reactive is a
component of fitness that is based
around our ability to produce
POWER. Swiftly moving or changing
direction typically dulls with age so it
is important to maintain power to
quickly/efficiently adapt in a 3-D space
The ability to combine several
movement patterns into a singular,
distinct movement.
Trying new things is one of the best
ways to develop a
well-rounded base of
COORDINATION. Learning a new
skill or movement pattern enhances
the movement profile that you can
call upon when being active
The ability of the body to process,
deliver and utilize oxygen.
Get out and move! We
encourage everyone to increase
CARDIOVASCULAR ENDURANCE.
Whether biking, running, or playing
basketball, if the body is moving, a
cardiovascular demand is working
to improve heart function and
overall health.
The ability of a joint or joints to move through full range
of motion.
Fluidity of movement in the human body is provided
through proper MOBILITY. Physical strength will mean
very little if the body does not have enough mobility to
get into the required positions.
The ability of the body to maintain
work and effort over an extended
period. Working at a higher threshold
for an extended period will improve
overall STAMINA. Increased
cardiovascular fitness also improves
the quality of each workout, providing
improved training over a set amount
of time.
Together, these six
components make up our
overall fitness. Focusing too
much on one or neglecting
another can leave the
human body unbalanced.
Let AIM help you find fitness
symmetry by completing the
AIM Complete Assessment
Profile. With this assessment,
we can identify and
individualize your needs to
help you achieve balance.
Not only fitness balance, but
ultimately life balance.

Corporate
Memberships
Fran Curry:
Member since October 2017
“I had several fitness center memberships as
no ‘one’ facility offered all I was seeking. That
all changed with HCI...
...it really is a comprehensive fitness
experience”
Martie Gunnoe:
Member since August 2017
“Our goal when joining HCI was having
something to keep every family member
active even when weather didn’t permit it.
It’s definitely done that for us!
HCI has helped me personally by offering a
wide arrange of group fitness classes at
convenient times. I love getting on the app
and signing up for the classes. It has also
allowed a place for my kids to attend camps
when school is out, or be able to play sports
as often as they like.”
Corporate Memberships are not only a
benefit to the employee, but the employer
as well! Set your company apart by offering
Corporate Memberships as an added job
perk!

Q: How long have you been teaching and what all do you teach at HCI?
A: I've been teaching for eight years (wow!) and currently teach Spin,
Yoga and Mat Pilates.
Q: When did your health & fitness journey start?
A: I’ve always been active with snow skiing, water skiing and
riding my bike. After I had my two daughters, I started working
out on a regular basis. I loved how it made me feel and how it
calmed my busy mind. I was encouraged by a few instructors
to get certified in spinning and so my journey began. I
began teaching early mornings and evenings while working
full-time. The love of teaching eventually took over and the
days at the dental office became less and less. After 34
years in the dental field, I retired to start my second life to
spread the love of fitness.
Q: What do you like to do outside the gym?
A: Spending time with my family and friends. I love paddle boarding,
walking the trails and just being outside.

Q: How long have you been teaching and what do you teach at HCI?
A: I’ve been teaching for three years now and teach SpinX (rhythmic
spin) and themed rides!
Q: When did your health & fitness journey start?
A: My health and fitness journey started at the end of 2015. I
gained 100 pounds within a year due to depression. That year,
I developed poor eating habits as a coping mechanism. After
coming out, I felt as though I was living an authentic version
of myself, which jumpstarted spin. I took a class and
instantly fell in love.
Q: What is your favorite thing about teaching?
A: Intervals! I love the high energy the music gives when
the beat drops.
Q: What is a random fact about you outside the gym?
A: I used to be really good in track! I actually competed in the
junior Olympics when I was a sophomore in high school!

  • 3. 3 As the Human Resource team at Hill Country Indoor, it has been such a pleasure to be part of HCI’s first full year of operation - and what a year it was! The first 12 months after opening our doors showcased the hard work and dedication our staff put in to help create the amazing environment HCI offers our community. We dubbed 2018 the year of growth as we more than DOUBLED our work force, and welcoming a total of 177 new employees to the HCI family. Serving as an incredible place to both work and play, HCI has undoubtedly become one of the area’s leading employers. In our many years of practice in the HR field, we have never before had the opportunity to serve such a diverse and exceptional work force as we do here. Not only does HCI have some of the most experienced professionals from the fitness and business management world, it also employs students from many of the local schools, as well as college students from in and around the area. We feel especially inspired by the students and young adults we have worked with since 2018. For our student employees, who are often joining HCI as their very first job, we strive to provide a place for them to learn how to work. We take the responsibility of guiding and molding their personal and professional development very seriously. So many of our summer camps and leagues were successful last year thanks to the energy and hard work our college employees brought while on summer break. Over the holiday break, we were so thrilled to see several familiar faces return to pick up shifts at HCI while back in the Lake Travis area. Knowing that many of them chose to spend their holiday break with us speaks volumes to the culture and community HCI has created under our roof, and only encourages us to grow in this aspect. In the same regard, we are honored to work alongside some of the most dedicated and professional team members in the fitness and recreation industry. From welcoming guests as the face of HCI, to providing our members with the very best experience, these team members are on the front lines every single day, developing relationships with athletes of all ages and treating our members and guests like family. We are also particularly thankful for the tireless hours our department leaders and administrative team put in behind-the-scenes each week to consistently ensure every event and program runs seamlessly and every guest experience exceeds expectations. At HCI, we aim to create a team with unique skills who share our commitment to the development of our community and our belief that sports, fitness and recreation are building blocks for health, leadership and character development. We are confident that every HCI team member has joined us in this commitment, helping us earn the desired reputation as a facility for sports excellence with unmatched customer service and, ultimately, helping HCI become a valued asset to our community. DIRECTLY FROM #ONTHEHILL Here at HCI, we believe that by cultivating and maintaining an exciting team atmosphere for our employees, we help create a place that YOU love to visit (even when you work here!). Unquestionably, what we do as an employer has significant impact on YOUR overall experience as a member. And we are so proud of how our HCI staff is doing! We hope you are too! The bottom line... • 11. 11 Finding balance in our lives is a challenging goal. New Year’s Resolutions often revolve around seeking this goal with aspirations to spend more time with family, take up a new hobby or exercise more. Hill Country Indoor provides a variety of sports and fitness opportunities for all ages to help achieve all three of these objectives. However, even with fitness choices, we need to strive for balance. Fitness is a complex concept and can be confusing and misleading. In the past we equated fitness with our physical appearance. Now, with the advent of wearable technology, we look at metrics such as heart rate or calories burned as an indicator of fitness. AIM takes a much more comprehensive approach to evaluating fitness through SIX PRIMARY COMPONENTS: The ability of a muscle or muscles to apply force. The body is built upon a series of joints that require balance between mobility and stability. STRENGTH is what provides that stability. Strength creates the shock absorbers that take the stress away from the body’s joints and bones. The ability of a muscle or muscles to apply maximum force in minimal time. The ability to be reactive is a component of fitness that is based around our ability to produce POWER. Swiftly moving or changing direction typically dulls with age so it is important to maintain power to quickly/efficiently adapt in a 3-D space The ability to combine several movement patterns into a singular, distinct movement. Trying new things is one of the best ways to develop a well-rounded base of COORDINATION. Learning a new skill or movement pattern enhances the movement profile that you can call upon when being active The ability of the body to process, deliver and utilize oxygen. Get out and move! We encourage everyone to increase CARDIOVASCULAR ENDURANCE. Whether biking, running, or playing basketball, if the body is moving, a cardiovascular demand is working to improve heart function and overall health. The ability of a joint or joints to move through full range of motion. Fluidity of movement in the human body is provided through proper MOBILITY. Physical strength will mean very little if the body does not have enough mobility to get into the required positions. The ability of the body to maintain work and effort over an extended period. Working at a higher threshold for an extended period will improve overall STAMINA. Increased cardiovascular fitness also improves the quality of each workout, providing improved training over a set amount of time. Together, these six components make up our overall fitness. Focusing too much on one or neglecting another can leave the human body unbalanced. Let AIM help you find fitness symmetry by completing the AIM Complete Assessment Profile. With this assessment, we can identify and individualize your needs to help you achieve balance. Not only fitness balance, but ultimately life balance. 1 STRENGTH 2 POWER 3 COORDINATION 4 MOBILITY 5 STAMINA 3 COORDINATION 6 CARDIOVASCULAR ENDURANCE 5 STAMINA 4 MOBILITY HillCountryIndoor.com/AIM-Training/ BALANCED TRAINING

  • 21. 21 Don’t take our word for it; hear what our members have to say! Corporate Memberships Fran Curry: Member since October 2017 “I had several fitness center memberships as no ‘one’ facility offered all I was seeking. That all changed with HCI... ...it really is a comprehensive fitness experience” Martie Gunnoe: Member since August 2017 “Our goal when joining HCI was having something to keep every family member active even when weather didn’t permit it. It’s definitely done that for us! HCI has helped me personally by offering a wide arrange of group fitness classes at convenient times. I love getting on the app and signing up for the classes. It has also allowed a place for my kids to attend camps when school is out, or be able to play sports as often as they like.” Corporate Memberships are not only a benefit to the employee, but the employer as well! Set your company apart by offering Corporate Memberships as an added job perk! Contact membership@hillcountryindoor.com to find out more!

A: I've been teaching for eight years (wow!) and currently teach Spin, Yoga and Mat Pilates. Q: When did your health & fitness journey start? A: I’ve always been active with snow skiing, water skiing and riding my bike. After I had my two daughters, I started working out on a regular basis. I loved how it made me feel and how it calmed my busy mind. I was encouraged by a few instructors to get certified in spinning and so my journey began. I began teaching early mornings and evenings while working full-time. The love of teaching eventually took over and the days at the dental office became less and less. After 34 years in the dental field, I retired to start my second life to spread the love of fitness. Q: What do you like to do outside the gym? A: Spending time with my family and friends. I love paddle boarding, walking the trails and just being outside. Upcoming Holiday Hours Summer Student Membership Pauline Claussen MEET THE STUDIO INSTRU

A: I’ve been teaching for three years now and teach SpinX (rhythmic spin) and themed rides! Q: When did your health & fitness journey start? A: My health and fitness journey started at the end of 2015. I gained 100 pounds within a year due to depression. That year, I developed poor eating habits as a coping mechanism. After coming out, I felt as though I was living an authentic version of myself, which jumpstarted spin. I took a class and instantly fell in love. Q: What is your favorite thing about teaching? A: Intervals! I love the high energy the music gives when the beat drops. Q: What is a random fact about you outside the gym? A: I used to be really good in track! I actually competed in the junior Olympics when I was a sophomore in high school! SIP & SPIN Knowledge Workshop Series MEMBER EVENTS Alex Strubbe UCTORS!
