Six:Thirty is a creative practice focused on our relationship with design and technology. Here is a presentation we have done at Google Creative Lab in London.
8. Every day we’re bombarded with ever growing
amount of news from different sources.
We find our attention divided by multiple headlines and
content, ultimately generating a sense of confusion.
With natural language processing software and traditional
printing techniques Out of Print explored this notion.
9. This is how it worked:
User selects news sources
to generate a headline.
User edits and sends the
headline to print queue.
Headlines are printed by
hand using the letterpress.
Posters are exhibited
in the gallery space.

We used Alchemy API to process the news of the day
and pull out words from the news articles.

Online communities are the
new editors and curators.
23. Collate is a project exploring the possibilities of digital
collaboration. An installation commissioned by London Design
Festival allowed visitors to take part in creating an image
based book at the V&A Museum.

30. Collate the book.
The 50 most popular user generated spreads voted
by visitors will be printed in a book.

42. Challenges.
At a certain point we implemented concurrent layout on the
same page: two users on two separate machines editing the
same spread using web sockets.
46. Visitors loved tagging.
The visitors were as engaged with tagging images as they
were with designing the spreads, sometimes even more so.
47. Age wasn’t a barrier.
The V&A attracted a very diverse crowd many of whom had
never used a touchscreen before. Some of them were hesitant
but after us explaining the way it worked and talking through
the screens, they spent more time engaging with the
installation compared to younger, more tech savvy audience.
