Blended learning combines online digital media with traditional in-person classroom methods. It involves a mix of synchronous face-to-face instruction, asynchronous online instruction, and independent study. There are several models of blended learning, including rotation models where students rotate between online and in-class sessions, and flex models where online instruction is primary but some students may receive face-to-face support. Blended learning aims to make learning more efficient and accessible while still allowing for human interaction and independent study. While it provides more flexibility and opportunities for learning, challenges include student time management and lack of independent study skills.
1. What is blended learning?
The term ‘Blended’ is self explanatory. It usually means a mixture of two or more things;
Blended learning means a mixture of various learning styles, modals, types, etc.
Blended learning is an education program ( formal or informal) that combines online digital
media with traditional class room methods.
Blended learning is an approach to course design where a portion of the traditional face to face
instruction is replaced by web based, online instruction.
Blended learning a pedagogical shift from traditional class room learning.
Blended learning is a term increasingly used to describe the way e- learning is being combined
with traditional class room methods and independent study to create a new, hybrid teaching
methodology.
Why Blended learning?
The ultimate aim of training or learning is to impact a change in the learner’s psyche; more
often in terms of behavioristic such as defining, recalling, identifying, choosing, computing,
classifying etc.
To bring this change we use or adopt the most suitable strategy that sits atop three basic pillars:
What are Blended learning Strategies?
In ancient time in Asian sub- continent, blended learning had an amalgam of various elements;
Imparting of theoretical knowledge in a class room like atmosphere but instead unded a
tree.
Compact and physical skills in the playground.

At that time, Blended learning was learning three different areas of knowledge under the
aegis of one teacher and also under one roof.

Types of Blended Learning
1. The Rotation Blended Learning Model
It involves both face to face instruction time and online study time.
2. The Flex Blended Learning Model
3. It is somewhat similar to rotation blended model. It primarily focuses on
online instructions, while only small groups or specific learners will have
access to the face to face instruction.
3. The A La Carte Blended Learning Model
It involves only online instruction, but the training may take place in a
physical class room or lab, may supplement the instruction that the learner
will receive in a brick- and mortar class room environment.
4. The Enriched Virtual Blended Learning model
It is centered around face to face instruction, which is supplemented by online
tools and resources after the instructor led sessions have been completed.
Blended learning -Two type of Changes
I.
Improving the logistics of learning:
To make processes
More efficient, easier
More Professional
Better organized, just- in- time, archivable
Improving the pedagogies of learning
To extend and enrich
How you learn; via better social learning,
New models of learning; new ways of creating, designing, and building learning.
II. Pedagogical change: Teaching and learning change.
From being given to finding or creating.
From fixed to options.
From listening to doing.
From one- size-fits-all to tailoring.
From copying notes to presenting your own work for others.
Blended Learning Advantages
1. Course access at one’s convenience and flexible completion.
2. Reduction in lecture class time.
3. Promotes independent learning.
4. Multiple ways to accomplish course objectives.
4. 5. Increased opportunities for human interaction, communication and contact among
students.
6. Introverts participate more.
7. Better learning by Media Generation.
Blended Learning Disadvantages
1. Procrastination.
2. Students has troble managing time.
3. Students often lack independent learning skills.
4. Problems with technology at the beginning
5. Can be overwhelming or too novel.
6. Poor integration or planning.
7. Resistance to change.
8. Good ideas but lack of time, money and support.
Conclusion
Blended learning methodology can be called as hybrid learning and is effective if the cases are
analyzed well and their implementation is managed with greater level of control.
