2. JENIS CAMPURAN
Salah satu prinsip yang membedakan bentuk satu campuran dengan
campuran lainnya adalah ukuran partikel. Berdasarkan hal ini campuran
dibagi menjadi tiga yaitu :

3. SUSPENSI
Jika pada campuran terjadi pemisahan yang jelas hingga dapat
dibedakan komponen satu dan yang lainnya, maka sistem ini
dinamakan suspensi (Sunarya, 2012).
Dalam suatu suspensi, paling sedikit satu komponen yang secara
relatif mempunyai partikel besar akan saling tersebar dengan
komponen lainnya. Contohnya pasir halus yang tersuspensi dalam
air, atau salju yang ditiup ke udara, atau endapan yang terbentuk
pada campuran reaksi. Dalam semua keadaan ini, ukuran partikel
yang tersuspensi cukup besar untuk dapat dilihat baik oleh mata
telanjang atau dengan mikroskop. Kemudian apabila campuran ini
tidak diaduk terus, maka partikel-partikel dari suspensi ini akan
mengendap karena pengaruh gaya gravitasi bumi, walaupun
kecepatannya tergantung dari besarnya partikel. Pasir yang kasar
akan mengendap dengan cepat dalam air, tetapi tanah lumpur
dalam air akan mengendap dengan lambat (Brady,2005).
4. LARUTAN
Jika zat yang dicampurkan dapat terdispersi ke dalam
cairan menjadi molekul atau ion, maka akan terbentuk
larutan dimana komponen campuran tidak lagi dapat
dibedakan satu dengan lainnya/membentuk satu fase
(Sunarya,2012).
5. KOLOID
Koloid berasal dari kata Yunani yaitu kola, yang berarti lem. Lem
zaman dahulu adalah suatu disperse koloid dalam air.
Koloid, disebut juga dispersi koloid atau suspensi koloid adalah
campuran yang berada antara larutan sejati dan suspensi.
Contoh adalah susu segar yang terdiri dari butir-butir halus dari
lemak mentega yang terdispersi dalam fase cair yang juga
mengandung kasein (suatu protein) dan beberapa zat lainnya.
Dalam koloid seperti susu, partikel zat terlarutnya lebih besar
daripada partikel larutan, tetapi lebih kecil dari pertikel yang
mengapung pada suspensi. Oleh karena bentuk ukuran dari
partikel koloid dibandingkan dengan ukuran medium di mana
partikel itu tersebar, maka di sini tidak digunakan istilah zat
terlarut dan pelarut melainkan fase terdispersi dan medium pen
dispersi.

6. KOLOID
Ukuran partikel dari ketiga jenis campuran tersebut dapat dilihat sebagai berikut
Karena ukuran partikel amat kecil, maka koloid tidak dapat disaring dengan kertas saring
biasa dan filter porselin, tetapi dapat dengan filter ultra atau kolodion, karena pori-
pornya lebih kecil. Berikut tabel ukuran macam-macam saringan
(Brady,2005)

Koloid disebut juga disperse koloid yang dapat dibagi atas delapan jenis sebagai berikut
