PERSONAL SUMMARY
An experienced Finance professional (FCCA-UK) with extensive business partners’
/stakeholders’ level exposure and a track record embedding robust financial governance across
organization to protect cash-flow, profitability and provide input to improve strategic direction of
business from a financial prospective. With a wealth of knowledge and experiences on all
facets related to finance and management and a bag full of transferable skills, I am driven by my
passion to continue learning and sharing my knowledge with others.
I have participated in ‘train the trainer’s program’ and facilitated various Executive Development
Programs for Sime Darby Group employees, organized staff training programs and discussions
related to analytical financial management and internal controls. In my role as corporate
accountant, I have also volunteered to mentor and monitor assessment procedures of many
ACCA undergraduates and students under the corporate ACCA CAET program to achieve the
requisite quality of education as reflected in syllabi, curriculum and ensure these junior
accountants received an all rounded training. Provided regular personal consultative counseling
support to staff who are also studying for professional accounting courses.
A member of the Harvard Alumni Club of Malaysia and have undergone an intensive Harvard
Business School Senior Management Development program, where course lectures are
inundated with practical real life case studies and group discussions. I hope to apply the same
teaching and coaching techniques to raise the general competency of executives and managers
in applying academic knowledge to solve real life business situations.
2. PROFESSIONAL WORK EXPERIENCE
1) Joined Swift Limousine & Cab Sdn. Bhd. as General Manager in 2013.
2) Vice President I – Finance, Sime Darby Berhad/Financial Controller-Malaysia-China
Hydro Joint venture for a RM 2 billion Hydroelectric Project (the World’s Second
tallest Concrete-faced Rock-filled Dam) - December 2002 to June 2013.
Selected to take financial stewardship in this Joint Venture project based on proven leadership
strengths in handling mega projects and complex transactions, multi-cultural environment,
decisive problem-solver who thrives on challenges, high level of perseverance to see through
even the most difficult tasks.
Key Contributions & Results:
Project start-up. Developed and recruited the initial Project Management Team. Oversee
the set-up of site facilities for client as well for the Project Management team. Set up clinics,
accommodation, recreational and food catering facilities.
Key strategist in financial reporting, cost analysis, cash-flow forecasting and project
financing. Developed and implemented systems and processes for Project Accounting,
Budgets, Costing and Management reporting. An excellent communicator with an ability to
present financial information in easily understood format. Monitors project costs against
budgets and alerts project management team on imminent overspending or unfulfilled
expectations. Makes specific recommendations to drive cost control from financial
perspective by:
- Implementing flash and key indicators to highlight real time overruns for
corrective actions.
- Recommend benchmarks for measuring the financial and operating
performances of departments.
Managed overall Project Risks. Lead and coordinate Risk Management meetings with
client, Risks Consultants and Risk Management Committee.
Directly involved in formulating the JV structure and project team charter.
Designed, developed and implemented CSR programs for the local tribal communities.
Established IT satellite communication systems for remote project site and provide IT
support services to both client and contractors at site.

3. 3) Finance Manager of Lec Refrigeration Plc, UK/Audit Manager for Sime Darby
Western Operations, UK - October 2000 to Novemer 2002
Undertook a 2-year special assignment in UK and assume a dual role as Finance Manager for
Lec Refrigeration Plc. (Lec), UK and Audit Manager for Sime Darby - Western Operations.
Key Contributions & Results:
Enhanced the various business processes and systems to bring standardisation in
alignment with parent company practices and to ensure that they operate with necessary
financial integrity and controls. Implemented manufacturing Bills of Materials and Costing
System.
Performed analytical review of various operational areas, synthesized diverse data into
concise reports and highlighting areas of concern to Regional Director, local directors and
operational managers.
Performed thorough product profitability analysis highlighting underperforming product lines
and successfully streamlined product lines, restructured factory operations and right-sized
business operations to facilitate disposals.
4) Chief Accountant – DMIB Berhad, 1991-2000
Led the accounting and controlling functions of a leading tyre manufacturing company which
employs more than 1800 employees. Over the period of 10 years, I moved across various
sections of Finance, starting out as Sales Accountant, progressing to Financial Accountant and
finally assuming the overall role as Chief Accountant and as director for a number of
subsidiaries within the DMIB Group of companies, located in Malaysia, Singapore and UK. I
managed the Finance Department with total staff strength of 30.
Key Contributions & Results:
Trustee for the DMIB Staff Provident Fund. Managed Fund Portfolio, liaising with Fund
Managers on portfolio investment and managed the Fund Accounts. Consistently maintain
returns exceeding 8% on funds invested.
Directed all financial components of new business process, including issuing Standing
Operating Instructions, documenting financial system requirements and teamed closely
with IT, supply chain, production, sales and other staff functions for a successful JD
Edwards implementation.
Performed feasibility studies of prospective capital investments or new business potentials.
Monitored progress of Capital Expenditure Projects and managed the Sanction and Fixed
Asset System. Monitored capital expenditures against budgets and carry out post
implementation reviews of projects to ensure that the projects yield the projected returns.
4. Routinely collaborated with operating managers and providing them with the necessary
support and guidance in resolving any daily operational issues and offering inputs from a
financial perspective. Helped them interpret and understand the financial implications of
their strategies and business plans
Awarded Certificates of Appreciation Towards the Development of Human Resources in
the Sime Darby Group for the consecutive years from 1994-1996. Facilitator for the Sime
Darby Executive Development Programme.
Won the NACRA Award for Annual Reports.
5) Assistant Audit Manager – Sime Darby Berhad, 1985 – 1990
Core duties include carrying out independent appraisals of the various operations and
systems of internal controls to determine whether organisational units in the group are
performing their planning, accounting and custodial activities in line with group objectives.
Comprehensive exposures to the various activities of the Group, through field audits of
Motor Group operations, the oil and gas operations, engineering services, property
development, manufacturing, trading, commodities trading and the downstream operations
of Consolidated Plantations.
Good international exposures and execute field audits of various operating units in
Australia, United Kingdom, Hong Kong, and Singapore regions.
6) Audit Team Leader – Shamsir Jasani (in association with Grant Thornton
International), 1982 – 1985.
Comprehensive experience in a wide cross section of industries such as banking,
financial institutions, stock broking (specialising mainly in the conduct of surprise audits
for KLSE), insurance, trading and manufacturing concerns.
