Prison.
Yusuf Meherally, who was a freedom fighter and socialist leader, founded the
National Militia and the Bombay Youth League. He also played a leading role in
peasants' organizations' and trade unions. He was imprisoned eight times during
the freedom movement. It was during his stint in Lahore jail that he was elected
the Mayor of Bombay in 1942. Perhaps, he is most famously remembered in
popular consciousness for having coined two of the most famous slogans which
were used at different points in the freedom struggle.
