BITS Pilani–Hyderabad Campus announces its first ever annual Technical
Festival that will be organized on the 25th-27th of October this year.
The fest has been named ATMOS –Assimilation of Technically Motivated
Souls
In February, 2012, BITS Hyderabad hosted a techno-cultural fest, the
very first of its kind in campus history. Encouraged by the overwhelming
response for technical events, we bring to you an independent technical
festival in which science and cutting edge technology conglomerate in
their finest forms.
The Theme
BITS Pilani Hyderabad Campus mirrors the essence of Evolution by
metamorphosing from a techno-cultural festival Pearl to its first ever
annual Technical Festival - ATMOS 2012. True to its name, BPHC is an
Assimilation Of Technically Motivated Souls!
Mankind in its entirety is a fitting example of Evolution and we at BPHC
strive to showcase the same. With ATMOS 2012, BPHC takes a giant leap
to portray the only consistent theory of Science- EVOLUTION. The theme
encourages students think out of the box and give innovation their own
definition.
The Technical Festival
ATMOS 2012 will incorporate several aspects to ensure a well-rounded
learning experience, in which the marvels of all branches of thought
collide to produce a solid technical festival. Guest Lectures and Technical
workshops will ignite the lamps of innovation in the minds of the
students and urge the participants to shape their ideas into reality.Various
competitions to challenge the most technically sound will enhance the
intellectual ATMOSphere of the fest.

3D Imaging Using Polaroids
This experiment requires two projectors to view the same image. This
gives two different perception of the same image. Now a Polaroid is
kept in front of both the projectors at specific angles. The combined im-
age when viewed with the help of a 3D glass gives us the perception of
viewing a 3D object.
Hidden Engineering
There are many engineering structures within our body. These are
fascinatingly complex yet amazingly copied into each and every one of
us. Such machines ,are the ones which we are going to present in front
of you. A detailed, lucid and elaborate explanation for all these efficient
engineering marvels shall be presented with an engineering perspec-
tive.
Complementing this, man, who has always been inspired by Mother Na-
ture, has created many engineering structures mimicking the same. We
shall take up few of such topics and attempt to describe their engineer-
ing benefits over the conventional ones.
Hope these would inspire you to delve more into the magical world of
bio-engineering.
To amuse the engineer and scientist in you, there are also a myriad of technical events lined up! Ranging
from Mechanics and Robotics to Code Wars, these are all set to complete your Evolution experience. So
come, travel into the future, and compete amongst the best. Come learn from the best. Come to Atmos.
Optical illusion
We have two inclined wedges placed at an angle. A double cone is
allowed to roll down the two wedges. However when one observes
this from a direction perpendicular to either of the wedges there is an
illusion that the cone is climbing up the wedge rather than down the
plane as is most popularly expected. We try the same thing with a cylin-
der and see the difference.

ChemLive
The Pharmacy Department is proud to present Chem Live, a combina-
tion of chemistry and analysis. A series of five experiments will be
performed live in front of the participants. The participants will then be
quizzed on what they have learned by seeing the demonstrations.
Canon Wars
Participants are supposed to make miniature cannon with a barrel,
powered by reaction of some very common chemicals like Baking Soda
and Kitchen Acids (eg. Acetic Acid and Citric Acid). A projectile small,
single and compact (i.e. no ropes, nets, loose cloth, etc.) will be placed
inside the barrel of the cannon to check the functionality of the cannon.
Automobile Quiz
In this event we test the participants’ knowledge in the field of auto-
mobile engineering. Their knowledge is tried from every angle, ranging
from engine efficiency to gear ratios are covered in a comprehensive
manner.
Anti-Gravity
Experience the fun and frolic being a true engineer. Learn and apply the
concepts of aerodynamics and rocket propulsion. Make a water rocket,
a type of model rocket which uses the power of water and compressed
air, and by Newton’s 3rd law of motion, propels against gravity, so comes
‘Anti Gravity’. It brings upon to you various concepts of product design
including product design, manufacturing and testing.
Mathefia
It is the event based on Basic Mathematical Ability, Logic, I.Q and
Approachability towards Question. It consist of three rounds the first
two rounds are elimination rounds and in third round the final teams
are given a chance to choose a topic from the provided choices and
they will be questioned on the topic they have chosen.
3D Pendulum
Set one of the pendulums into oscillation. It oscillates in one plane.
Observe the pendulum through color filters or through a dark glass
placed over one of the eyes. We see the pendulum moves in an
elliptical trajectory-sometimes appearing to be closer to us some times
further away from us. This illusion is brought about by the intensity of
light entering your eyes. Consequently, each of your eyes locates the
moving pendulum at slightly different distances at the same time! The
combined view of our two eyes sometimes converges behind the plane
of the plane of the pendulum and sometimes in front of it, leading to
illusion of the pendulum moving in three dimensions.
Popsa
Have you ever wondered at the marvels of civil engineering? For a
Layman it’s just another human made structure, but we civil engineers
know and want to know every single engineering detail that’s in its
making.“Popsa” is one such event where we encourage you to utilise all
the engineering skill and construct the task.

Chemoformation
Some find equations and graphs in everything they see, some view the
entire world as merely physics and mechanics. If you think there’s more
to it than those two facets and you are an ardent follower of the world
of chemistry, then you can’t be at a better place. Chemoformation is the
event for you…It’s time you put on your thinking caps and bring out the
Chemist in you.
24 Hour Group Discussion
Have you ever seen a giant discussion over a beautiful and interesting
topic spanning over 24hrs? This will be the chance for students
bursting to express their views and listen to others for a healthy and
a powerful discussion over extremely general yet exciting tech topics.
Now heres the catch, this ones an open discussion where people can
flock in or out anytime. Prizes will be given over to good speakers at
regular intervals based on crazily funky methods like banging levels etc.
So get that caffeine shot and brace up for that 24hr jam!
First Years
Every job requires mission critical skills an engineer should have. How-
ever, there are times when completing one’s job means going above
and beyond the call of duty. For circumstances like these, one needs
skills which set him apart from others, make him more valuable to his
employer.
Realizing that, we have the event “First Years”. It aims to introduce stu-
dents to some much sought- after skills through workshops so that they
may have a thorough grounding in the basics of these subjects.
The workshops are:
•	CAD
•	Photoshop
•	VFX
•	Photography
•	Astronomy
•	Basics of Coding : Algorithms
•	Web Design
•	Entrepreneurship
•	Basic Electronics
•	Paper Publishing
What-If Room
So how far can you swing your brain over a crazily fast and exciting
discussion over a What-If question in a locked up room? The
participants will be given a simple what-if question, like “What if the
earth stops rotating?” Now the adrenaline rush starts coupled with
elegant scientific rationale to give an answer to this question. And as
expected, the answers come out to be weird, unbelievable and at the
end of 10 mins everyone just realizes what a state of trance it had
been!
Jugalbandi
When the brightest minds come together for a paper presentation,
there is an elegant ambiance created, and something magical is bound
to happen. Like a beautiful harmony of musical notes from different
instruments and vocal chords, there is a beautiful symphony orchestra
of scientific ideas challenged at each step, questioned till the ice
over it breaks to reveal the fundamentals. Students participating in
the paper presentation will engage in an intellectual dual. Each will
discuss, question the other, criticise the other to make him better. Learn,
think and build.

Tech-bee
This event consists of 2 rounds.
1st round would be a very basic one and we encourage anyone and eve-
ryone, who’s interested in computers to participate. This round aims to
test just how well one is acquainted with the computer technology, not
necessarily pertinent to software, but to hardware as well; which will
also test how aware is regarding the technical jargon that’s used more
frequently, the logos of the websites they often visit and stuff like that.
Cash Prizes to be won after this round and also around 10 people will
be selected for round 2.
2nd round is something that relates to more of logic, coding in any
programming language, decoding, debugging, contracting a given code,
minimizing the space and time complexities of the given algorithms,
giving pseudo-codes of a desired complexity (not really the best or the
worst case, but something in between which will really help us out in
judging the right winners) for a problem, testing the level of under-
standing the participants have about different algorithms for shortest
paths, knapsack problems etc.
Comprehension Testing
A great event designed to challenge the reception and understanding
ability of tech-heads from the nation. We present to the participants,
a few questions based on an elaborate comprehension on general
topics of Math and problem solving. No external knowledge will be
required to solve the questions, just a little more careful reading of the
comprehension; if you still don’t get it, read it again. Period!

Cash Prizes to be won after this round and also around 10 people will be selected for round 2. 2nd round is something that relates to more of logic, coding in any programming language, decoding, debugging, contracting a given code, minimizing the space and time complexities of the given algorithms, giving pseudo-codes of a desired complexity (not really the best or the worst case, but something in between which will really help us out in judging the right winners) for a problem, testing the level of under- standing the participants have about different algorithms for shortest paths, knapsack problems etc. Comprehension Testing A great event designed to challenge the reception and understanding ability of tech-heads from the nation. We present to the participants, a few questions based on an elaborate comprehension on general topics of Math and problem solving. No external knowledge will be required to solve the questions, just a little more careful reading of the comprehension; if you still don’t get it, read it again. Period!
