1. Banafa. Their project, “If Given a
Chance,” centered around a
foundation that helps high school
students who overcome extraor-
dinary challenges to succeed in
life. The team developed and ran
an online advertising campaign
for over a three week period for
the foundation.
In the recently concluded Google
Online Marketing Challenge of
2016, one of the four NPU teams
ranked in the top 20% of teams
competing around the world.
NPU team was ranked as 438
out of 100,000 students in over
100 countries. Google labelled
NPU team project as "Good" for
the quality of their project. The
team comprising of Yi (Eric) Xu,
Sabina Kuandykova, Menni Fang,
Radha Shah,and Ravin Bhakta

NPU Job fair took place on Thursday
August 4, 2016. We had an overwhelm-
ing number of attendees from the stu-
dents in our entire history of job fairs.
For the first time we had over 500
students attend! We also had two major
companies (Xfinity and AT&T) as well as
some start-ups from local industry and
an Argentinian company that is just
starting in Sunnyvale attend. The
company, Palermitano, has already hired
a few interns from NPU last semester.
Overall, it was a great job fair and we
hope to build and expand from this
success.

Results for the 2016 Annual Scholarship
were recently announced. We proudly
present the seven extraordinary students
who excel not only in their academics, but
also in their contribution to the community–
Mr. Mallikarjun Koduru, Ms. Meena Oleti,
Mr. Prajwal Kandkur, Mr. Prajeet Patibandla,
Mr. Siddhant Saini, Ms. Yue Hu, and Ms.
Ching-Ting Sun.
Each student will receive a $1000 tuition
scholarship in the 2016 Fall semester.
NPU continues its tradition of
involvement in community
events.
NPU students, faculty, and staff
celebrated Independence Day with
fervor and vitality. NPU’s float
depicting the Statue of Liberty and
Uncle Sam was one of the focal
point in the Fourth of July parade
organized by the City of Fremont.
The event was co-sponsored by
NPU.
Students enthusiastically danced
alongside the float as the parade
moved across the Fremont down-
town area. The students also
served free water to the public.
Celebrating Freedom
Commencement speech by
Fremont City Council member
and former Vice– Mayor of the
City of Fremont Vinnie Bacon
inspired the graduating class of
2015-2016.
The ceremony took place at
Hyatt Santa Clara Convention
center on June 18. Of the 2019
graduates, approximately 1500
exuberant graduates were able
to attend the ceremony with
their family and friends.
As these students embark on a
new journey, we wish them good
luck. Make NPU proud!

4. Professor Ahmed Banafa’s article on IoT
Standardization and Implementation Chal-
lenges was accepted and published by IEEE
-IoT. The paper has also been selected by
the Energy Conference Network, and will
be presented in the upcoming conference
on “IoT in Oil and Gas,” in Houston, TX.
An abstract of his research paper:
"The rapid evolution of the IoT market
has caused an explosion in the number
and variety of IoT solutions. Additionally,
large amounts of funding are being de-
ployed at IoT startups. Consequently, the
focus of the industry has been on manu-
facturing and producing the right types of
hardware to enable those solutions. In the
current model, most IoT solution provid-
ers have been building all components of
the stack, from the hardware devices to

NPU students exposure to the trends in the Silicon Valley continues.
INPUT speaker, Mr. Omaid Humayun shared his insights on "How to find jobs
in the Silicon Valley.” Omaid is a senior account executive at Gartner. Over
150 students attended the event.
Michelle Chen, Head of Product at UBER, talked about “Uber and
Other Disruptive Technologies in the Silicon Valley.” She shared her
experience and wisdom with over 90 students.

the relevant cloud services or as they
would like to name it as "IoT solutions", as
a result, there is a lack of consistency and
standards across the cloud services used
by the different IoT solutions. As the in-
dustry evolves, the need for a standard
model to perform common IoT backend
tasks, such as processing, storage, and
firmware updates, is becoming more rele-
vant. In that new model, we are likely to
see different IoT solutions work with
common backend services, which will
guarantee levels of interoperability, porta-
bility and manageability that are almost
impossible to achieve with the current
generation of IoT solutions. Creating that
model will never be an easy task by any
level of imagination, there are hurdles and
challenges facing the standardization and
implementation of IoT solutions and that
model needs to overcome all of them."
