HOWTO ACCESS OUR
SERVICE
Your drug and/or alcohol team
can refer you to us. We also
accept private referrals.
At Turning Point we believe individuals need
outstanding support and treatment to go through
the changes that can accompany alcohol and drug
withdrawals. We understand that supporting you
effectively through your withdrawal is vital to your
long term stability and the first important step
towards abstinent recovery. We provide a safe,
person centred and therapeutic programme that will
help you to achieve a better quality of life through
medically managed detoxes, and therapeutic rehab
services.
Our rehabs are welcoming, friendly, supportive and
safe. As a service user once said,
“This house heals if you let it.”
“I can’t reiterate enough how
much this service/staff have
helped me. Taking into account
my personal needs, staff were
extremely supportive and
enabled me to realise that I
could stop drinking.”
Tom
“Lots and lots of thanks
to you all, you have all in
different ways given me a
good start, it’s been hard
work but definitely been
worth it.”

THERAPEUTIC COMMUNITIES IN:
SMITHFIELD DETOXIFICATION SERVICE
Will I have a weekly key working session?
Yes, at rehab, a minimum of one hour per week is set
aside for all residents. At Smithfield in-patient detox,
one to one key working sessions are twice a week with
up to five sessions for a 28 night stay.
Are mobile phones and
electronic devices allowed?
Yes.
Is there always a staff
member available 24/7 to
talk to?
Support is available to you
either in person, or by phone
24 hours a day.
Can I go for a walk?
At Smithfield in-patient detox
this will be upon progress of
your detoxification and also
an assessment of physical
need. It will always be
accompanied by a member of
staff. There is more flexibility
once you’re at our residential
rehabs. Please refer to your
handbook.
Who cooks our meals?
In our rehabs, shopping and
cooking are done as a group
and you are encouraged to participate in communal
living. This way you’re gaining even more useful life
skills during your recovery to help build an
independent future. There are on-site chefs during
your stay at Smithfield.
What is a therapeutic
community?
This is a supported
environment where
individuals live and work
together to explore
acceptance of themselves
and others and change
problem behaviour.
Am I allowed visitors?
Yes, see your handbook for
further details.
Can I receive presents/
gifts?
Yes.
Are there any age
restrictions on who can
access treatment?
Yes, you have to be 18
years plus.
YOU ASKED US...
“The staff at Smithfield were so
very helpful, caring and kind. My
stay was a pleasure and very
positive. Staff did everything they
could to help and make my stay
comfortable, informative, positive
and memorable. Their kindness I will
always remember. I had first wanted
a home detox, but for medical
reasons I wasn’t allowed one. I am
so grateful now that I was given a
place at Smithfield. I will highly
recommend it to people I may know
who are in the position I was in a
few weeks ago. Thank you so much
for helping me with my journey and
enabling me to get my life back and
look forward to a bright future.”
Andrew
“I would like to say a huge
thanks for all the support you
have given my mum, she is a
changed woman and me and my
sister have our mum back. This
is the new start she needed.”
Hannah
