The Trustees of SADAA, The South Asian Diaspora Arts Archive,
invite you to join us for an exhibition and original dance
performance commemorating the conservation, and presentation of
Ram Gopal’s historic Garuda Costume to the V&A Museum.
On Sunday 3 July 2016
Drinks & tours of the Exhibition to the Theatre Gallery from 1.30 p.m
onwards, Learning Centre, Seminar Room 3.
Performance & handover South Asia Gallery (Room 41) 3.00 p.m.
Welcome address by Shyama Perera (Chair, SADAA).
Introduction to Ram Gopal by Dr. Ann David
(Head of Dance, University of Roehampton).
Preserving the Garuda Costume by Simon Sladen, Senior
Curator & Jane Pritchard, Curator of Dance, V&A Theatre
and Performance Department.
Incarnations Dance Recital Choreographed by Shane Shambu
Using dance phrases by Ram Gopal, this performance
witnesses their transformation into new forms. Three male
Bharatanyam performers evoke the changing landscape of
the Indian dancing body, with a live Carnatic vocalist
evoking soulful moods and atmosphere.
