2. Automated Number Plate Recognition (ANPR)
• Invented in 1976 in UK by Police Scientific Development Branch
(PSDB).
• Camera based Technology that performs Optical Character
Recognition (OCR) on images to read License Plates (LP) of Vehicles.
• Real time detection of English Alpha-numeric characters of LP
number.
• ANPR cameras are specialized type of CCTV cameras.

7. Process Flow
Cameras always in Active Mode and does not require any trigger
If any vehicle comes in FOV, ANPR camera locates the license
number plate
LPU performs OCR on captured number plate image & saves in
JPEG format the database
Processing takes place locally and data transfers to Control Room
periodically
If network gets break, then data will be saved locally for at least 7
days

8. Transaction Details
 Each vehicle record will be a single file and contain the following::
• Vehicle Registration Number
• Date & Time
• ANPR Site Location
• Lane Number
• Image of the number plate
 Approximate size of single file will be around 1 MB.
 Transaction size varies as per camera requirement and will increase with
increase in resolution.

 Capable of detecting and recognizing license plate numbers of four
wheelers, 2-3 wheelers, LMV & HMV.
